The Hampshire region
Southsea is the hidden gem on the South Coast. it is the only town in UK with a full hovercraft service.
The facilities here are excellent and it is not as crowded or as expensive, as other better known seaside towns. It has everything you would expect from a seaside, good beach,a pier, amusements. Also fishing and watersports facilities.
There is lots for children including a boating lake, a free natural history museum. The Pyramids leisure pool is great fun with its slides and wave machine. For the adults there are plenty of shops traditional and modern pubs and bars restaurants and several nightclubs.
The huge Southsea common is right next to the seafront. It is the venue for many events throughout the summer, many of which are free. Southsea boasts some interesting history. We have the DDay museum here and Southsea castle, built by King Henry VIII.
The New Forest is a short drive away as are several other interesting sights along the South Coast. Winchester and Chicester are a short distance away and they are excellent for a day trip.
For the lovers of history and culture there is Old Portsmouth with it's quaint old houses, city ramparts, museum and The Warrior, a 19th century naval ship. Inside the dockyard is Nelson's flagship, the Victory and Henry VIII's ship, the Mary Rose, along with several naval museums. At Gunwharf there is shopping, eating, drinking and the famous Spinnaker Tower from where you can see for 23 miles all the way round!
At the August bank holiday there is the world famous kite festival which attracts people from all over the world and lasts the entire weekend. Great fun for adults and children alike. The climate in Southsea is better than in many parts of the UK with lots of sunshine.

"Well located property"
My husband and I stayed at this house with our son, his partner and two toddlers. We know the area quite well, so we knew that it was in a good location for us. We felt that for a house that sleeps ei… More
Thank you for taking time to write a review. As you have chosen only to make your remarks here on trip-advisor I feel I should clarify a few things for readers. The house is advertised as a sleep maximum 7. It does have the bedroom space to sleep 8. The photos on the holiday lettings site show the rooms throughout. Your party were 4 adults and 2 small children, we supplied a travel cot free of charge for one of the children. So we would certainly expect the home to be large enough for your party . The house is a typical Victorian house as advertised and is priced accordingly. Larger houses are much more expensive and we believe we offer great value for families The tiny living room as you call it, is in fact 13x12 ft. It is very typical of this style home, The kitchen is a good size with an additional small table available, with 2 chairs. We supplied all the cooking equipment and full dining settings for up to 8 person. We also supply all bed linen and towels. We have had many families with children of all ages stay and have not had any concerns of safety. We have found that families contact us prior to booking to ask if they have any concerns. Some bring a safety gate for stairs if they have a worry about their children climbing stairs. They would either request additional items, which we can sometimes supply or bring the own. We have never had any issues with the plug sockets perhaps other families have brought covers with them when travelling with young children or babies
The socket you mention is a standard plug socket with switch, these are throughout the whole house. They are regularly checked for safety. I am sorry you were concerned about this and if you and contacted us during your stay, we would have remedied your issue by purchasing a cover from the DIY store just around the corner from that house.
We believe the house is suitable for families and we are always happy to supply additional equipment if we can.

"Just what we wanted"
My husband was coming back off deployment and we had decided to stay in Portsmouth for a few days rather than head straight home, and with having two young children we didn't want to be tied to a hotel room. The house we booked in Jessie Road was exactly what we wanted. Well equipped, extremely clean and an excellent location.
We hadn't arranged an exact time to pick the keys up, however we rang the owners as soon as we got there and within 5 minutes we were let into the house. Good communication throughout the booking. I have already told friends about it, and will definately be booking again in the future!

"Great comfortable family holiday home."
Very comfortable home with good sized bedrooms. Loved the sunny courtyard as well. It was also within easy walking distance to most of Southsea right down to Gunwharf Keys. We found the home to be very clean and well maintained and equipped for everything our family would need for a holiday stay.

"Nice summer cottage"
Nice period cottage near sea and summer facilities of Portsmouth.
Bedrooms and kitchen are comfortable for seven guests. Reception room and outdoor space are rather small for bigger groups.
Thank you for taking time to write a review for us. All our homes are Victorian terrace houses, as are most properties within Portsmouth and Southsea. Our homes are advertised for 6 people despite the fact they have 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The common rooms are at least standard size and are in fact larger than a lot of modern houses. The garden areas are court yard style as advertised, we provide seating and BBQ facilities.
We do accept requests for parties of 7 (in this case there were 6 to our knowledge) we would expect guests to take into account the area, the type of homes and the comprehensive description as a guide. If you say your group is made up of 4 children and then arrive with 4 strapping teenagers aged 14-19, effectively 6 adults, you may find some common rooms a little cosy. Guests are asked to disclose the makeup of their group. If we are aware we can advise if one of our larger home is more appropriate.
