The West Country / Cornwall region

Cornwall is a stunning holiday destination in the south west of England. With a rugged coast line and sandy beaches, this is an ideal place for walks and relaxation. Activities include surfing, riding, birdwatching and visiting numerous attractions including the world class Eden project, Charlestown (museum of the sea and pirates), National Trust properties and gardens. There is also the heritage related to tin mining and china clay to explore.

The weather in Cornwall is temperate often several degrees warmer than other parts of the country which supports numerous sub tropical gardens.

Jazz, folk and literary festivals (Du Maurier at Fowey) throughout the year.

Excellent local produce especially cheese, lobster/crab, vegetables, preserves and clotted cream!

There is always something to do and see in Cornwall.

Portscatho area

The Roseland is on the south coast between St Austell and the Fal estuary. An area of outstanding natural beauty it is very rural and unspoilt. There are fabulous country/ coastal walks. Lots of beaches which do not become as crowded as in other Cornish destinations.

The area is not as commercial as the North coast - though Newquay is only 40 minutes away. Newquay has many attractions including a zoo, sea life centre and Dairyland.

Local outings can include Falmouth (by ferry from St Mawes), St Mawes and Pendennis castles, Truro museum and King Harry ferry. River trips available.

Fowey and Charlestown are also within easy distance. Further afield - just over an hour to St Ives, Penzance and a little further on to the Minack theatre for wonderful performances in the open air. There are ferries and flights available to the Scilly Isles.
