The County Antrim region

Here's a list of the big attractions in our area, plus some local secrets we'd like to share with you.

1.Giant's Causeway: Legend has it that the giant, Finn McCool, created this geological marvel. It is a World Heritage Site and now has an impressive visitors centre to match. Tip: car parking charges might take your breath away, so park across the road at the Heritage Railway (also worth a ride).

2.Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge: Spanning a chasm eighty feet deep, it is an exhilarating experience peering down through the wooden slats into the clear waters below. The coastal path offers stunning views of Rathlin and the Scottish Isles, as well as a noisy seabird colony.

3.Old Bushmills Whiskey Distillery: Join a tour of the distillery to observe the craft of traditional Irish whiskey making and sample the goods too.

4.Ballintoy Harbour: A picture-postcard pretty harbour with a pocket-sized tea room and magical views. Much-loved by walkers, this is the most celebrated part of the Causeway Coast.

5.Whitepark Bay Beach: The spectacular sandy beach forms a white arc between two headlands including the tiny salmon-fishing village of Portbraddan. The beach is backed by ancient dunes rich in bird and animal life. Enjoy lazy summer days, picnics, making sandcastles and long walks along this truly beautiful beach.

Some of our favourite things to do...

•Exploring the rockpools at Murlough Bay. It is exceptionally beautiful and remote.

•Eating fish and chips from Morton's, Ballycastle. Grab a bench and watch the sun set over Ballycastle Harbour as you tuck into the best battered cod for miles.

•Watching the seals on the beach at Rathlin Island. Hop on the ferry and take a picnic lunch.

•Ambling through the conservation village of Cushendun. It's a great place to stop for coffee as you drive the coastal route. Don't forget to say hello to the resident Billy Goat Gruff.

•Deep sea fishing for cod, mackerel and anything that bites with Captain Chris on his fully equipped boat “The Lord Moyle” sailing out of Ballycastle Marina.

The Royal Portrush Golf Course is less than a mile from the cottage and is rated amongst the top 15 courses in the world. It's a natural seaside links with deep bunkers and expansive roughs, overlooked by the 13th century Dunluce Castle.

Just up the lane from our cottage is Maddybenny riding school, welcoming riders of all abilities from 5 years old.

Anglers will talk up a tall tale after fishing for salmon on the River Bush, just 7 miles east of Copperpot Cottage in sight of the famous Old Bushmills Whisky Distillery.

Portrush itself offers an eclectic mix of shops, restuarants, cafes and seaside amusements for the family. And everywhere has a stunning sea view. The beach offers bucket and spade fun as well as great surf breaks. Several suf schools offer lessons for all the family.

From personal experience, the bustling Ramore Wine Bar offers a broad, well-priced menu (children welcome) and 55 Degrees North is a good option for afternoon tea with great views (children welcome). Further afield, Tartine in Bushmills offers delicious food and an interesting wine list.

"Wonderful place to stay"

YOu cannot go wrong booking this beautifully equipped cottage. Although not quite within walking distance of Portrush, it is only a 5 minute drive away and there was plenty of parking. THe cottage is definitely 5 * and has everything you need for a self catering holiday. THere is even a lidl just down the road! The outside area was wonderful to relax in listening to the farm sounds in the distance and the fact that there is parking for 2 cars was a godsend. The cottage is advertised as sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms but to be honest we "lived" in the kitchen /diner area and didn't use the very large lounge hardly at all so if a sofa bed was there could sleep 8. I can thoroughly recommend this place

Thank you so much for taking the time to review Copperpot Cottage. The open plan kitchen and Snug area is fantastic for cooking, relaxing and chatting together as a family isn't it. It is great to hear you enjoyed your stay and found everything you needed at the cottage. Come back soon!

"Much more than a cottage!"

We arrived to be greeted by Nicci who showed us around what is a very roomy cottage, comfortably furnished, lovely and warm. The large kitchen/TV area forms the focus of the cottage with a separate lounge with wood-burning stove (although we never did manage to get the logs to light!). Upstairs are three large bedrooms, bathroom and ensuite to one bedroom. All was in very good order and clean. There is plenty of room for 6 people upstairs and down.

The cottage is situated about 2 miles from Portrush harbour and walkable if you are fit - there's a bit of a hill on the return journey. A brand new Lidl is just 5 minutes away. This was our first visit to Northern Ireland and we wished we had visited sooner. The countryside is beautiful and the coastline breathtaking. We walked to Portstewart and caught the bus back and walked the East Strand to the hotel where we relaxed with a Guinness or two before returning. We spent a day in Belfast visiting the Titanic exhibition, and also in Londonderry where we walked the walls, and of course Giants Causeway which entailed a lot more walking. There was plenty to do as well as a comfortable cottage to return to and relax. A lovely week.

Your review gives good insight into features of the cottage as well as the locality and I'm sure it will be useful to other potential guests. Thank you. You saw so much of Northern Ireland during your stay - we're delighted you enjoyed the whole experience and had such good fun!

"Beautiful cottage"

We had a fantastic weekend in this cottage. It has everything you need. It is spacious throughout and the large living room has a stove. The kitchen has everything you could possibly think off. It is private, it is a short distance to portrush town centre. Can't wait to stay in it again.

You have paid us the biggest compliment by coming back to Copperpot Cottage and staying again. We are delighted you had fun and hope you'll make us a regular haunt for weekend breaks or longer stays.

"Warm, spacious, cosy cottage"

This was a fantastic getaway cottage for us and friends over the New Year period. The owners were very accommodating, especially as our friends arrived slightly earlier than the 3pm check in time.

The cottage was very spacious and well equipped. We where two couples and one 8 month old. The location of the cottage was great! Quiet, but only a short drive (5 mins max) into Portrush.

There were two sitting rooms, one adjoining the kitchen, where the TV was located, this was a great space for our friends baby to play and the from room, with sofas and a wood burning stove.

The location was perfect as there was lots to do in the surround area (even over the holiday period), and the owners had supplied a files of ideas and info should we have needed it.

Should you book this cottage - I recommend the Harbour Bar/Bistro on the sea-front in Portrush....great food.

We hope to return soon!

Thanks for taking the time to review us. We're delighted you got to celebrate your New Year in style and hope that you'll be back to explore more of the Causeway Coast's sights soon.

"3 Night Stay over the Christmas hols"

I stayed for 3 nights, arriving on Christmas Eve, with my wife, our 2 children, a girl aged 7 and a boy aged 3, and my wife's parents. The cottage was decked out in Christmas decorations, and Nicci was there upon arrival to give the tour and help with finding some "Santa" hidey-holes. We all found the accommodation very spacious and well stocked, particularly the kitchen for our Turkey Dinner. Loved the wood-burning fire and the wi-fi always worked well. A great option for the Causeway Coast.

Thanks so much for taking the time to review us. We're delighted that Christmas at the cottage was merry and that Santa found his way down the chimney!
