The County Antrim region

Portrush is the most popular seaside resort in Northern Ireland. Located in County Antrim it is built on a peninsula pointing north-northwest.

Portrush is home to the largest amusment park in Ireland. Other attractions in Portrush include Waterworld, an indoor attraction with water flumes water cannons, sprays and jacuzzis.

Portrush's biggest attraction are the magnificent beaches, Causeway Coast, Giant's Causeway and the nightlife.

It offers something for everyone with 2 blue flag beaches, The West Strand and The East Strand (from which you can walk all the way to the White Rocks) award winning restaurants and 3 golf courses including the famous Royal Portrush course.

The landscape is both tranquil and rugged and for the outdoor guests there are plenty of water sports to get involved in and there is normally a summer Surf School on both strands in July and August which you can enrol in for a set fee. There are many beautiful walks, not just along the beaches but around the coastline over Ramore Head or along the coastal path to Portstewart which also boasts a beautiful strand to walk along.

There are too many restaurants to mention but no trip to Portrush would ever be complete without a visit to the award winning Ramore Wine Bar, situated at Portrush Harbour, with it's extensive, value for money menu you will not be disappointed!!! There is no booking system so if you have young children it is best to arrive upon opening as in peak season there are often long queues! You will also find Coast Pizza and Pasta restaurant, The Harbour Bar and Restaurant and Ramore Oriental all in the same harbour area and as they are owned and managed by the same family you can expect the same excellent quality, value for money dining experience.

For the kids there is the famous Barry's Amusements, the Dunluce Centre and Waterworld which, should the weather not be at it's best, are a great alternative to buckets and spades on the beach.

The town boasts the usual array of tourist shops where you can pick up some holiday souvenirs and there are also a few individual boutiques and shops worth a browse including Blue Moon and the White House department store which is the Harvey Nicks of Portrush!

Details of nearby famous attractions including the Giants Causeway, Dunluce Castle, Mussenden Temple, Carrick-a-Rede Ropebridge, Bushmills Distillery can be found at www.discovernorthernireland.com and www.nationaltrust.org.uk

Portrush

The world famous North West (NW) 200 bike race takes place between Portrush and Portstewart in May every year. This even brings over 100,000 visitors to the area on the main race day, which is the Saturday, but recent years have seen a week long carnival theme being introduced so that there is something to do and see for the whole of the NW week.

Portrush Air Show, The Raft Race and many other events take place between May and August each year and more details can be found on the following website: http://www.northcoastni.com/whats-on/

"Great Location, perfect base for touring."

This is a charming two floor maisonette, it has stunning views across to East Strand (you soon ignore the car park). The sunsets were magnificent across the skyline of the town with the North Atlantic rolling in onto the beach. The accommodation itself was well appointed, lots of little bits to make it feel homely. OK, there were a few bits that we didn't like, but, nothing worth mentioning.

The comfort of the apartment was second to none, the beds were really comfy. The location was perfect for touring. We drove up the A2 coast road from Belfast and was treated to the most stunning drive I have done in years. Portrush itself is quiet, but too quiet, plenty to eat etc.

Linda, the was faultless. Easy to contact by email or phone, always ready with advice and got in the wine supplies for us so we could switch off and relax right from the start.

Would we go back....yes we would.

"Luxury with a sea view"

This is a fantastic house. Beautifully presented with everything you could possibly want for comfort and was beautifully situated.

The only draw back is that there is not a lift so for elderly people and young children this may not be as suitable as some others. That said it comes highly recommended by us. Don't judge it from the outside images. It is very luxurious.

"Just right!"

Comfortable, well appointed two storey maisonette with lovely views over Portrush (once you've got used to the car park). Facilities were very good and the welcome was very warm: the owner was helpful and easily available on the phone if needed. It provided a very good base for exploring the North Antrim coast, and was cosy to return to on blustery autumnal evenings!
Portrush is a nice little town: we would recommend the Ground Espresso coffee shop (great coffee, cakes and toast!) and the Harbour Bistro (excellent food and atmosphere), a trip to the Giant's Causeway and an exploration of the Glens of Antrim, especially the coastal towns.
Only grouse? No wi-fi...but then it was good to be without it for a few days, I suppose!
The Links provided a really great base for this. Thanks Linda!

"Perfect ending to our trip"

We were on holiday from Canada and stayed at the Links at the end of our trip. It was a great location and was a nice relaxing end to a busy trip. We had plenty of room and the flat was well appointed. The only negative was the lack of wi-fi but we managed to connect in a couple of places in town.
