The Hebrides/Skye region
The Isle of Skye lies just off the west coast of Scotland and is now connected to the Scottish mainland by a road bridge at the Kyle of Lochalsh. One of the largest of the western isles, Skye provides for an ideal holiday location with plenty of amenities for family holidays yet retaining a stunning beauty and tranquillity for a peaceful break in northern Scotland. This is a great spot for wildlife lovers, whether it's on the land, in the air or on the sea. Keep a look out for elusive otters and dolphins or if you're really lucky you might glimpse a passing golden eagle! It's easy to take to the sea and boat hire is readily available.
The beautiful mountainous landscapes and untouched coastline of Skye offer some of the best hill-walking to be found in the UK. The scenery is sublime and the views spectacular. Most walkers cannot resist the allure of the Cuillin Hills and its majestic range of trails. Novice walkers should follow the Fairy Pool Circuit- a truly magical trail which connects a number of gorgeous mountain pools. The whole island is quite simply an outdoor enthusiasts' paradise. Just about every outdoor activity imaginable is available including kayaking, mountain-biking and kite-surfing. It is also an exceptionally rich environment for bird-watchers and offers visitors a very real chance of seeing Scotland's iconic Golden Eagle and its fish easting cousin- the Sea Eagle. Well worth a visit is the tranquil fishing settlement of Uig. This is located nearby and offers ferry trips to the sublime Outer Isles, several superb food and drink outlets, a much-praised local bakery and is the base for the island's brewery.
