The Hebrides/Skye region

The Isle of Skye lies just off the west coast of Scotland and is now connected to the Scottish mainland by a road bridge at the Kyle of Lochalsh. One of the largest of the western isles, Skye provides for an ideal holiday location with plenty of amenities for family holidays yet retaining a stunning beauty and tranquillity for a peaceful break in northern Scotland. This is a great spot for wildlife lovers, whether it's on the land, in the air or on the sea. Keep a look out for elusive otters and dolphins or if you're really lucky you might glimpse a passing golden eagle! It's easy to take to the sea and boat hire is readily available.

The lodge is quite isolated but not totally cut off from the outside world. The nearest village is only a mile away and boasts a pub and a shop. The owners of the lodge also provide bread, eggs and other necessities to visitors. Perfect for enjoying the outdoor life of Skye, Otter Lodge is ideal for climbing and walking. In addition, kayaks and canoes are available. For sightseeing, Talisker Distillery is close by as is Dunvegan Castle, the oldest inhabited castle in Scotland and home of the MacLeod Clan. The lovely fishing village of Portree is a short drive away. It boasts some great fish restaurants and some interesting shops. There is also a leisure centre there with access to a swimming pool and other sports facilities.

"In a nutshell, peace, tranquility and beauty."

My wife and I needed a peaceful, relaxing getaway from the rigours of work and three demanding children and we got just that. The owners were very helpful and eager to please. The lodge was perfectly functional, comfortable and brilliantly positioned. I would definately book again.

I have a couple of reservations about the property which are a matter of our own personal taste so they shouldn't let them put you off. We, as a loving couple, would have loved to be able to cuddle up (after a long day walking on the surrounding hills) on a sofa and watch TV instead of seperate chairs. The dining facilities were uncomfortable. Due to the "bar stools" my legs went numb before the main course. An ELECTRIC kettle PLEASE!!!!
