About this location
The Cornwall region
With white sand beaches, a dramatic coastline, quaint villages and an abundance of untouched countryside, Cornwall certainly is a beautiful part of England. It is a perfect destination for family beach fun and activity holidays, as well as being the ideal place to just relax and unwind.
Portreath has a lovely sandy beach, which is popular for swimming, surfing and bodyboarding. When the tide is out there are numerous rock pools and caves for children to explore. The beach has a stream running down to the sea, which is great for entertaining toddlers. Cafes are close by when you need refreshments and in the centre of the village there is also a grocery shop, post office, bakery, three pubs, a couple of beach/surf shops and a children's park.
Portreath is an ideal base for walkers, runners and cyclists. Take the South West coastal path towards Godrevy or Porthtowan for spectacular sea views. Walking and cycling trails take you through Illogan Woods or over to Tehidy Country Park - a park comprising of 250 acres of woodland, lakes, bridleways and nature trails. Also, the Bissoe trail starts in Potreath - an 11 mile cycle route to Devoran. It's possible to hire bikes for this trip and a pub lunch in Devoran is a great treat at the other end.
Portreath is just 3 miles from the A30, which means you are in easy reach of many attractions and beautiful places. St Ives, Penzance, St Michaels Mount, Truro, Falmouth, Newquay and numerous National Trust venues are all within 30 minutes drive.
