BookThe West Country / Cornwall region
With so much to explore in Cornwall, visitors have the chance to experience tiny Cornish fishing villages, smugglers' coves, breathtaking beaches, historic mining settlements, surf spots, boat trips, harbour towns, and dramatic coastal scenery. Cornwall has fantastic coastal footpaths to discover along the longest stretch of continuous coastline in Britain.
Portreath is an ideal location to visit places such as The Eden Project, with the largest indoor rain forest in the world and the National Maritime Museum Cornwall in Falmouth and not forgetting the famous Land's End. Paradise Park, with many different species of birds and small animals, is a super place to visit and has the Jungle Barn indoor play area. Children will love the Seal Sanctuary at Gweek and Flambards Theme park offers a great day out for all the family. St Ives is a bustling fishing village with many gift shops, restaurants and art galleries such as The Tate. The Minack Theatre, set on spectacular cliffs, is a magical place to visit and also the wonderful beach at Porthcurnow.
The Portreath area
Portreath is a small village nestling in a valley surrounded by dramatic cliffs and National Trust countryside. The harbour, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its once busy port bringing in coal and sending tin and minerals around the world, is still used today by local fishermen. Portreath, with its secluded sandy beach and the iconic Gull Rock, is ideal for swimming, surfing and windsailing in safety, watched by the local Surf and Life Saving Club. Wetsuits and boards can be hired locally within the village. Portreath offers the pleasures of sea and countryside with beautiful views, spectacular cliffs and walking and cycling trails.
Porthtowan beach, about 3 miles up the coast, is also very popular with surfers and body boarders. Further up the North coast is the famous Fistral beach at Newquay where you can participate in many water activities and enjoy the nightlife after visiting Newquay Zoo. Tehidy Country Park, just outside Portreath, with its adjoining golf course, is a beautiful country park with 250 acres of woodland, lakes, bridleways, cycling and nature trails.
