The West Country region
With so much to explore in Cornwall, visitors have the chance to experience tiny Cornish fishing villages, smugglers' coves, breathtaking beaches, historic mining settlements, surf spots, boat trips, harbour towns, and dramatic coastal scenery. Cornwall has fantastic coastal footpaths to discover along the longest stretch of continuous coastline in Britain.
Portreath is an ideal location to visit places such as The Eden Project, with the largest indoor rain forest in the world and the National Maritime Museum Cornwall in Falmouth and not forgetting the famous Land's End. Paradise Park, with many different species of birds and small animals, is a super place to visit and has the Jungle Barn indoor play area. Children will love the Seal Sanctuary at Gweek and Flambards Theme park offers a great day out for all the family. St Ives is a bustling fishing village with many gift shops, restaurants and art galleries such as The Tate. The Minack Theatre, set on spectacular cliffs, is a magical place to visit and also the wonderful beach at Porthcurnow.
Portreath is a small village nestling in a valley surrounded by dramatic cliffs and National Trust countryside. The harbour, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its once busy port bringing in coal and sending tin and minerals around the world, is still used today by local fishermen. Portreath, with its secluded sandy beach and the iconic Gull Rock, is ideal for swimming, surfing and windsailing in safety, watched by the local Surf and Life Saving Club. Wetsuits and boards can be hired locally within the village. Portreath offers the pleasures of sea and countryside with beautiful views, spectacular cliffs and walking and cycling trails.
Porthtowan beach, about 3 miles up the coast, is also very popular with surfers and body boarders. Further up the North coast is the famous Fistral beach at Newquay where you can participate in many water activities and enjoy the nightlife after visiting Newquay Zoo. Tehidy Country Park, just outside Portreath, with its adjoining golf course, is a beautiful country park with 250 acres of woodland, lakes, bridleways, cycling and nature trails.

Modern comfortable town house with everything you could possibly need for a holiday by the sea. Within easy reach of all of west Cornwall. Portreath has a lovely beach with a few shops for everyday needs, good food at the Bassett arms pub and the Atlantic bar. The Bridge inn just before you enter Portreath is also worth a visit. We had 5 adults and 2 babies in the house and had plenty of room to not feel to cramped, plenty of storage space in the garage which is accessed from a door inside the house on the ground floor with another door then leading to a small terrace.

Thank you for a lovely professional review. Our apologies regarding the inventory - not our idea. It was one of the conditions of the tourist board last year.

"a lovely townhouse by the water with great welcoming service, will certainly stay there again if we go Cornwall again!"
Porth Gwel was a lovely place, it surprised us in many ways. From the booking, check in and then check out, it had been always lovely warm welcoming service. the place was very clean and well prepared with all the things we needed, it was by the water and beach and the beds were comfortable. We stayed there for a week during the half term break with a two year old and a ten year old, and they especially enjoyed watching boats from the living room and played Mouse Trap (one of the toys that was supplied in the house). The place was close enough to St Ives, so we could pop down whenever we want to enjoy all the galleries and great food there too. The weather was not very good during our stay there, but we really enjoyed everything and had a great time there. It is a great base for the family to explore Cornwall.
We really missed our daily routine there since we got back - It started with breakfasts in Hell's Mouth Cafe, Lunch at Tate St Ives, seafood dinner at Alba St Ives after the galleries and the beach, then finished off our day with coffees at Blue Bar in Porthtowan, watching the sunset and the proper surfing in the sea while our little one was asleep in the car. (you can actually park the car directly in front of the Blue Bar on the beach, so, when you are enjoying your drinks you can also keep an eye on the kids while they are sleeping in the car.)
