The Dumfries and Galloway region

Just over the English border lies Dumfries and Galloway in the west and the Scottish Borders in the east. These two very distinctive areas have retained a totally rural and tranquil atmosphere where visitors can enjoy a wonderful holiday away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
In fact here you'll find miles of beautiful untouched countryside and striking coastlines; a great place for outdoors holidays, fishing, walking, sailing and cycling. Coastal and beach strolls and small fishing harbours waiting to be explored.
The capital city of Scotland, Edinburgh, is probably on most people's 'must visit' list and with good reason. The city is renowned for its magnificent architecture and historical buildings, which include Edinburgh Castle and numerous museums and galleries.
Today Edinburgh is a thriving modern city with world class shops and restaurants and lots of traditional atmospheric pubs.

The area of Dumfries and Galloway is a fantastic area of unspoiled natural beauty, perfect for both those who want a chilled out holiday and those looking for some adventure. This lovely example of holiday cottages in Scotland sits just five miles from the town of Dumfries itself, but is also ideal for exploring the surrounding towns and villages. If you are planning to take a day trip, Newton Stewart is a little market town on the banks of the River Cree, close to the Galloway Forest Park. This vast expanse of woodland stretches over 150,000 acres, with marked trails ideal for hikers of all experience levels.

"A High Point In Portpatrick"

Sitting on a hill overlooking the village and harbour, Hillcroft is aptly-named and it must have one of the best views in the area. That said, it also means it's a bit of a climb home in the evening. There's a little path, locally called Lover's Lane, just down the hill from the house that makes it easier to get up and down to the harbour front but I'd have still liked a helicopter to get me back in the evening after having had a full dinner and few drinks in the Crown. Mind you it's worth it for the view.

There's loads of private car parking space and even a large garage under the very pleasant sun terrace. Everything else about the place was pretty much as advertised. It's spacious and well fitted out for a holiday let - no complaints. We enjoyed out stay there and would readily go back again.
