"Perfect location, DONT book through trip advisor"

The location was idyllic, windows looking out onto the calm harbour full of impressive yachts and across the bay of poets to the mountains beyond, but the the booking process was nightmaring. My phone number and contact information was blocked form my communications with the owner, so even on my departure from the UK I did not have the address of the property, or any way of contacting the owner once in the area and away from my computer. I emailed holiday lettings who have no tel number on their website, and they did not respond except for asking me to keep trying til 4pm (when I was leaving to drive to the airport at 12) despite repeatedly e-mailing them and asking them to ring or even just text the owners phone number, the only response I got was another email, one saying that they had passed my phone number on to the but that came AFTER we had vacated the property. We made contact as I searched the owner by name on facebook and he also suggested I search for him on youtube, and he kindly arranged for us to be picked up at the station and taken to the property.
The property itself was excellent, and very homely with lovely furniture and two bathrooms (the bath, in one was a little tricky to get into as its in a kind of alcove). There were a couple of minor things which were lacking.. no kettle (probably very english of me) and no small sharp knife (carving knifes and breadknives were there), also the cups and glasses were all very small in size (no chance of a mug of tea), but you can tell from the minor issue that I have to raise how good the place really was, A supermarket less than 50 yards one way was almost unnecessary as the bakery 100 yards the other way and the greengrocers and deli next door were so excellent. The area is probably the most photogenic I have even visted (even beyond venice for me) with lerici, cinque terre, and most of all portovenere nearby. A wonderful experience made initially stressful by the failures of the booking system
