Home description
The villetta is against the steep slopes in which the small harbour of Portofino is embedded. You reach the villetta from the main square and have then to tackle 200 ( exactly 200) steps through our 3000 m2 terraced garden negotiating some 30 m height difference, we will assist you in bringing up your luggage the day of your arrival and down when you leave. But still…. You need to be fit ! , once up you have the most beautiful view over the little harbour of Portofino and the mediterrenean sea.
the living space of the villetta is divided over two floors: the ground floor has a spacious living room with TV, open fireplace, dining room, fully equipped kitchen with terrace for outside dining with pizza oven and grill. In front of the living room a pleasant garden - terrace with deckchairs. On the upper floor are two double bedrooms and one single room with extra bed. One shower room and one bathroom. The furniture is functional but not luxurious. Roof terrace.

The North West Italy / Italian Riviera/Liguria region
Liguria was " discovered " by the northern europeans, getting away in the winter from harsh climate conditions. The winters are indeed very temperate, even at Christmas you may have your drink or meal outside on a restaurant terrace , watching the see and observing the italian families dressed in their "best" even with a furcoat , while you are sipping your coffee in short sleeves . Spring starts in february when the mimosa's blossom and the hills turn yellow and autumn will finish far into october. The summers are warm, especially july. ( 30 degrees C) . So lots of beach life, swimming, surfing, sailing boats , snorkling etc. A trip upwards the hills covered with vinyards and olive groves towards the higher alps ,you should not forget and you will marvel at the pastel coloured churches and houses.
Portofino is the most western point of the Tigullio bay , which ends in Sestri Levante . From Sestri Levante starts the " Cinque Terre" region with its marvellous hiking paths high along the coast. The Tigullia bay has long sandy beaches ( or gravel ), but more close to Portofino there are beautiful little secluded bays . Santa Margherita is trendy little town, with a large marina ( the boats seem all to belong to Onassis! ), Zoagli's coastal footpath on top of the waves with little rocky beaches and some restaurants is a must, Chiavari is known for its antique market every second weekend of the month, Rapallo has a good golfclub. Genoa is worth a visit ( harbour, ocean museum, shopping centre). Food in Luguria is excellent: Hand made pasta with pesto sauce, fish, meat, local wines ( some unique and spectacular whites like Pino Grigio, or flavorful reds , sample them as they may not be for sale outside Liguria .
Portofino area
Portofino is in every travel guide and indeed the little picturesque harbour is a gem . What the Costa Amalfi is to Naples is Portofino to Liguria. To our fortune no concessions were ever made as to the exterior of the houses around the harbour and nothing has been modernised . The locals hang their laundry still out of their windows! and the little harbour, full of coloured fishing boats offers some small coffee shops and a few restaurants. Visiting Portofino is a sensual experience and by purchasing some typical regional foodstuffs in Portofino's little shops , you take this feeling back home with you .
You donot need a car in Portofino ( public parking space is scarce and expensive ), take the tourist boat to Santa Margherita, or Camogli , Punta Chiappa, San Rocco etc. or the bus.
For hikers: Portofino is a wonderful place to start your hiking ! Away from the rich and famous and the crowds, numerous trails lead over the “promontorio” through the woods . Privileged are the “trekkers” also as they can visit little beaches (impossible to stop when driving a car ) , have a dive in the blue mediterrenean sea and explore by snorking or deepsee diving the sea , Portofino is a protected marine park .
One week is too short to explore the immediate surroundings of Portofino!
