The Mallorca/Majorca region
Mallorca or sometimes written and pronounced Majorca is the largest of the Balearic islands and has been one of Europe's most popular holiday destinations for over 30 years. Majorca is a Mediterranean island of stunning natural beauty and offers a fabulous climate with superb scenery for hiking, cycling, golf; and of course beautiful beaches. The islands capital Palma is a vibrant and exciting city and is well worth a day trip to see its imposing cathedral and experience its rich heritage.
Holiday makers are encouraged to explore the island's stunning coastline and beautiful interior. The Serra de Tramuntana is the mountain range running parallel with Mallorca's north west coast. The terrain and mountain peaks are in stark contrast with the gentle east coast. It's a great idea to rent a car and heading out to Soller, Deia and Valldemossa make a visit to the the less well known inland villages.
Mallorca has something for everyone and the island will have you coming back year after year to try it all again!
Porto Cristo was originally a Mallorcan fishing village but is now a bustling town with a modern marina. The fishing tradition continues today and the town has managed to retain a certain old-world charm. You can relax at one of the many bars and cafes along the tree-lined esplanade or laze in the sun on the sandy beach. There are a wide variety of good quality shops and restaurants to suit everyone's taste - there is even a Burger King.
Porto Cristo is also home to the celebrated Caves of Drach, a series of spectacular caverns leading to Europe's largest underground lake.
Boat excursions leave regularly from the harbour, but for the more adventurous, fishing, sailing and scuba diving are available in the area.
