About this location
The Puglia region
West Coast (Ionian Sea )
Starting from Santa Maria di Leuca, the extreme tip of the heel of Italy , and moving along the Ionian side (west side) , the coast is mostly flat, consisting of long and beautiful stretches of fine white sand gently washed by the sea , sand dunes and Mediterranean vegetation. It is the typical landscape of the beaches of Porto Cesareo , the favorite location for those seeking unforgettable Landscapes, Wild Beaches and Breathtaking Sunsets .30 km south of Porto Cesareo, the Ionian Sea reveals, in all its glory, Gallipoli , the “beautiful city” ( ” kalè polis ,” in greek ). Apparently an island in the sea, with the domes of its churches and the dazzling whiteness of the houses on which stand the flowered balconies. The medieval town , the narrow winding alleys , the ramparts , the castle , the churches, the Greek fountain , the baronial buildings are attractions that rarely a city can give and make Gallipoli one of the wonders of the Mediterranean.
East Coast (Adriatic Sea)
This side of Salento has a rather high and jagged coastline which offers breathtaking views and gorgeous scenery in unspoiled nature . The most precious pearl in the Adriatic resort is undoubtedly Otranto, full of history and architecture (civil , military and religious) steeped in oriental influences, also the Aragonese Castle and the Norman Cathedral.
The path from Otranto to Castro is one of the most attractive tourist routes in the region, with levels sometimes over the eighty metres above the sea .
