About the home

Dourovou is a small company that charter yacht on the Douro river water way in Portugal.

The company owns a small Marina where we also have bungalow (T1) to rent.

Our boat is 28ft Motor Sail Yacht. IMEXUS 28 ( or Macgregor 26M )

The Douro water way starts on the Atlantic coast at Porto, and comprises five connected lakes that extend for 200 km to the border with Spain.

Along the river there are free public piers with charming little family-run restaurants nearby where you can have superb meals, At some piers there are also small hotels and shops. All prices are very good.

As these are inland waters it's perfect for a first charter experience.

You can explore the valley with our boats and stop were ever you like, take tours by train along the valley, walk in the vineyards, visit farms and small towns or simply swim in the warm clear waters of the river.

The climate is pleasant at any time of year. But best time is Spring and Autumn...

“Adventure and tranquility” If you like adventure and something more rural and 'off the beaten track', I would highly recommend a holiday with Dourovou. We chose the yacht charter for 6 nights (11th June 2012). The journey to the destination/ yacht pick up (near Ferradosa train station), is a metro trip from airport to train station (45 minutes), followed by a train ride (2 and a half hours) to Ferradosa train station - the train journey is very, very cheap and amazing in itself winding its way round the Douro. On arrival we were looked after by Jose; had a comfortable night in one of his chalets, meal and lift to the supermarket to pick up supplies for week ahead, then shown how to use the boat and we were away. Jose also gave us a itinerary which we found useful to follow and made sure we had lock times etc. There are many places to moor, a fair few restaurants although take enough food to have evening meals and lunches. The walk on the old railway line in Barca d'Alva is amazing. The restaurants are very cheap - less than 20 Euros for 2 people with 2 courses, bread and lots of wine. The best thing about this holiday was the tranquillity, the culture and beautiful scenery… and of course it was good fun being on a boat all week!

“Sailing Douro river” Charting a 26 MacGregor for a week or more is the best way to visit Douro river by your own . The boats are easy to sail and very confortable . Mr. Alberto gave us a river map and sujested places for having excelent meals at nice and cheap restaurants and also to stay at night . The landscape is overwhelming .
