Lime House (LIME)
from £57 /night help
Cottage | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 6
Lime House was built in the 1850s and has now had a total renovation. With a luxurious bathroom, stylish galley kitchen and touches such as local quarried stone fireplaces, the owners of Lime House have spent considerable time ensuring the property is a contemporary home from home. Located on the Isle of Portland which is home to the National Sailing Academy, this is the perfect place for lovers of water sports, climbing and nature. Portland's coastal path takes you right round the island, passing the mainstay quarries that have made it world famous for its stone (St Paul's Cathedral in London is made from it). En route you can take in Portland Bill where you can climb the steps to the top of the lighthouse then come down for a revitalising cream tea or maybe a locally caught crab sandwich and also don't forget to explore the many hidden coves and inlets dotted along the way. The major seaside resort of Weymouth with its traditional family attractions is an easy drive or bus journey away.

The Dorset region
Dorset is a county with lots to offer, from astounding natural landmarks such as the World Heritage Jurassic Coast, the beautiful Golden Cap and the popular natural cove at Lulworth to the lively seaside towns of Weymouth, Swanage and Lyme Regis. A week (or longer) self catering holiday in Dorset gives you the time to really soak up the history, feel and beauty of the region, taste the fine local cuisine and enjoy a break from the hectic pace of town or city life.
Portland is a tied island just south of Weymouth and one of the largest man-made harbours in the world. It is home to the National Sailing Academy and will host the sailing events for the 2012 Olympic games.
