Enquire nowThe Languedoc-Roussillon / Herault region
The Languedoc borders the Mediterranean sea with its spectacular coastline, the Pyrenees mountain range and the fabulous Camargue, famous for its beautiful white wild horses. Languedoc-Roussillon boasts up to 300 days of sunshine each year, with warm and sunny weather starting in April lasting into October. Summers are hot and temperatures frequently reach 30C plus in July and August. Things to see include mountains, lakes, rivers, wildlife, ancient cities, market towns and cathedrals. World Heritage Sites in the area include Carcassonne - famous for its medieval walled city, the Canal du Midi - wonderful for long walks, cycling or boat trips, and the Pont du Gard - a three-tiered Roman aqueduct. The area is rich in history - Hannibal's March, Roman Occupation, the Crusades against the Cathars and the Treaty of the Pyrenees establishing the border with Spain - and there are lots of Roman and Spanish influences still evident today. Montpellier, the capital of Languedoc-Roussillon, is a lively university town with botanical gardens, the largest pedestrianised square La Place de la Comédie, a 14th century cathedral and is a 45 minute drive away. For those wanting to take a trip to the vibrant city of Barcelona, it is easily reached by motorway in less than 3 hours.
The Portiragnes Plage area
Portiragnes Plage is a quiet, Mediterranean coastal village situated near Beziers, with a local supermarket, boulangerie and various restaurants and bars in the village square and along the seafront. The sandy beach is shallow and safe for children, with various watersports on offer in the summer. The nearest hypermarket can be found at Villeneuve-les-Beziers, a short drive away. Beziers is famous for its fortress cathedral, Cathedrale de Saint-Nazaire, and as a an important wine-making centre for the region. For wine lovers, take advantage of the chance to taste and buy local wines from the "caves". The Canal du Midi is a short distance from the house offering a pleasant walk, cycle ride or opportunity for a boat trip, and the 9 locks can be found at Fonseranes. Visit Cap d'Agde for its harbour, sitting in one of the waterside bars and restaurants watching the world go by. This is also where you can find the nearest 18 hole golf course and theme parks including Aqualand and DinoLand.

Had a great week here - loved being able to walk down to the beach or town. The house had everything we needed and was well placed on the complex - a quiet location but very close to the pool. Thankyou |

We were looking for a property on the Med, that was drivable as our first family (5 month old baby) holiday, this place was recommended to us and fitted the bill well. It's a fair drive down from the UK to Portiragne Plage but very worth it. It has a real Mediteranean feel to it and the property is a real home from home with everything most people would want / need. 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a fair sized open plan fully stocked kitchen (incl washing machine and dish washer) come lounge with hifi / tv etc and a great conservatory with sliding doors to open it out onto the ample patio that has a built in BBQ. The gated complex L'Orangier sits in has parking right outside, handy if you need to ferry stuff to and from the back of the car. It also has a pool a 30 second walk away which is clean and has toilets (not that you really need them as you are so close to the apartment) and a lifeguard (read, security man who checks you have appropriate swimwear (speedos only, no bermuda's!) and a blue wrist band confirming you are a resident of Les Clos). It could do with some sun loungers and umberella's though as it can be quite exposed in the mid day sun. Otherwise there is the beach which is a 10min walk or a 2 min drive (plenty of parking). Big, sandy, clean - perfect ! The surrounding area is typical southern French and full of vinyards and little Caves selling wine and fresh fruit/veg. The main town of Portiragne is just a short drive and has a selection of large supermarkets if you are cooking for yourself. The airport at Bezier is a stones throw if you decied to fly down. To sum up, I loved this place and would not hesitate to recommend it. Everything you need to make your stay comfortable has been thought of and it's in a lovely part of France. I wish we could have stayed longer ! |

Our second visit to Portiragnes-plage was as good as first one. We've had a very pleasant stay at L'Orangier. The house is quite big, tastefully decorated and comfy. There are plenty of nice restauraunts nearby (L'Ecluse at Villeneuve-les-Beziers for example) and the beach is gorgeous. Altogether, it was a really nice vacation. Thank you, Rosie and Simon!
