Home description

Journeys Coast Cottage is a spacious, three bedroom detached bungalow with a large double aspect living room with sea views. The driveway has parking for three cars and there are steps up to the front door. The south facing rear garden is not overlooked and has patio furniture and a barbecue area.

We are gradually introducing eco features to the property to enable a sustainable holiday experience - recycling, rainwater harvesting, heat recovery ventilation system, log burner - with other projects planned.

Just across the road there is a public footpath leading to the beach - it is a 5 minute mainly level walk. The tramways coast to coast path is a short walk away and the area is part of the World Heritage site covering Cornwall's mining past - the restored mine site at Wheal Peevor and the famous cliff-top Wheal Coates at Chapel Porth are interesting walks from Journeys.

The West Country / Cornwall region

Any of Cornwall's many attractions can be reached within 45 minutes drive of Porthtowan - its a great base to explore from.

Porthtowan is a small, vibrant, village nestled between spectacular cliffs, on the fabulous north coast of Cornwall, situated midway between Newquay and St. Ives. It has a safe sandy beach, patrolled by lifeguards May to September, making it an ideal place for swimming and a popular surfing destination.

There is a post office, Village Store, two restaurants, pub, beach bar, surf shop, snack bar, ice-cream, beach sundries a small art gallery & a children's playground.

Porthtowan area

The beach has full blue-flag status - one of only nine in Cornwall for 2008. Dogs are not allowed on the beach May – September.

The Blue Bar on the beach is a great surfers bar with live music at weekends and good food - it's a popular spot for watching the sunset.

The Porthtowan area is part of the World heritage site covering Cornwalls mining past - inaugurated May 2007, local projects are the Tramways coast to coast path / cycleway, the mine sites at Wheal Peevor and Wheal Coates, Blue hills is a restored tin streaming works and mine site. see: http://www.cornish-mining.org.uk/status/status.htm

How to get there

Most guests travel to Journeys Coast Cottage by car - we have private parking for up to three cars.

We have had guests travel by National Express coach to Redruth with a short taxi ride to Porthtowan.

Train to Truro or Redruth is a further option.

The local bus service is good with the bus stop 100 metres from the cottage.

Flights to Newquay are available from many UK airports - see http://www.newquaycornwallairport.com/

It is a 40 min drive from the airport to Porthtowan. Detailed directions will be supplied with booking confirmation.

Journeys provides spacious accommodation for six people, bedroom 1 has a double bed, bedroom 2 and 3 each have two 3 foot single beds. We aim to keep the property in perfect condition and our guests comments reflect this - all interior photographs taken January 2009.

Telephone is provided for guest use with cost of calls deducted from security deposit - the closest mobile signal is on the beach.

Please note that the bathroom has a shower only - no bath.

Further details outdoors:
At the front of the property is off-road parking for up to three cars, steps lead up to the front door. A key safe is conveniently placed next to the front door allowing guests flexibility - you can surf without locking yourself out or losing your key!

A covered veranda and gate allows access to the private rear garden. There is a balcony at the front accessed from the living room.

The rear garden is a real sun trap and has a BBQ area and table for six a patio and a grassed area. We also provide a large sun shade, swing ball, fishing nets, beach windbreak.

Further details

Bookings are secured on receipt of 25% rental plus a £100 security deposit and a completed booking form.
The balance is due 32 days before the arrival date.

If the booking date is less than 32 days before the arrival date the complete balance plus £100 is required.
On satisfactory return of the property the security deposit less any telephone charges will be returned.

Linen is supplied with all beds made-up on arrival. Please bring your own towels.

All bookings are Saturday to Saturday.
