The North Wales / Snowdonia / Gwynedd region
The Snowdonia National Park boasts some of the most beautiful and spectacular scenery in the country. Where else can you walk in such majestic scenery ; explore a copper mine; cycle on designated cycle routes; travel on a mountain railway and enjoy a range of natural beauty and wildlife?
The Snowdonia National Park Authority works with landowners and other organisations to look after Snowdonia's landscape and wildlife, and to make sure that people are given the chance to enjoy and appreciate what they find there, without spoiling it for future generations.
Porthmadog area
The beaches at Black Rock Sands, Borth-Y-Gest, Morfa Bychan and Criccieth as well as popular tourist attractions such as the Italianite village at Portmeirion and the Ffestiniog and Welsh Mountain Railways, are all within easy reach by car. Nearby is the local harbour town of Porthmadog. Slightly further afield are the market towns of Pwllheli and Criccieth (with its prominent castle). Towards Snowdonia is the picturesque village of Beddgelert, where, if you follow the footpath besides the rushing River Glaslyn to a stone monument, you will find the resting place of the legend of Gelert. Why not visit Harlech with its cafes and castle and then explore its long sandy beaches?
Recently this area has become a haven for birdwatchers as many flock to view a mating pair of rare ospreys at the RSPB Glaslyn Osprey Project, the first in living memory to settle in Wales (this is only a 15 minute walk from the park).
Recently opened in 2009 is the new section of the Welsh Highland Railway which will eventualy run from Caernarfon to Porthmadog.
The newly built cafe/visitor centre at the top of Snowdon has also been completed this year.
Nearby Tremadog has a welcoming choice of places to eat out.
Aberdunant is central to the whole of North Wales, Anglesey and Snowdonia. Golf, hill walking, water sports, game and sea fishing are all conveniently situated on the doorstep to Aberdunant Country Park.
