Carregfelen is an unusual, luxurious, 5 Star Graded, 14th Century Manor House set on a private 2000 acre leafy estate on the edge of Snowdonia. Surrounded by ancient oak woodlands, the Wern Estate is a paradise to walkers and bird watchers. The house has been lovingly restored by the Williams-Ellis family - the cladded extension was extended in the 1920's by Clough Williams-Ellis, creator of the nearby Italianate village of Portmeirion. Inside are twisty corridors, marvellous antique furniture and oak staircases. The splendid Dining Room, with antique oak refectory table and old oil paintings is reminiscent of a medieval hall and the cosy living room has the huge original inglenook fireplace. The attic bedrooms have wonderful views of the surrounding mountains and the terraced gardens are a delight. In front of the house is a paved area with BBQ, slate topped table and benches with views of Moel y Gest. This is the gateway to explore the very best that North Wales has to offer.

The castle dominated Criccieth and the small harbour town of Porthmadog, with it's famous Ffestiniog railway, are both a short drive away. The excellent sailing centres of Pwllheli and Abersoch are close by.

This is a wonderful setting from which to enjoy the very best that Wales has to offer.

The North Wales region

This region of North Wales is steeped in history. Snowdonia National Park is one of the most beautiful areas in the U.K. The Snowdon Mountain Railway takes you up to the summit where the views are breathtaking - you can either walk down the mountain (where a wonderful cafe offering home made ice cream awaits you) or take the train back to Llanberis.

Every corner of this stunning region will take your breath away!

Porthmadog

The house is close to Portmeirion, the amazing Italianate village created by Clough Williams-Ellis (who was related to the owner of Carregfelen) and made famous by "The Prisoner" series in the 1960's.

The castles of Harlech and Criccieth are only a short drive away, whilst Caernarfon castle is well worth a day's visit. There are activities planned for families throughout the summer.

Fishermen and sailors will enjoy Pwllehli and Abersoch. Children will enjoy the sandy beaches of the Llyn Peninsular. Climbers will love the challenges of Snowdonia. There is something for everybody in this region.
