Home description
Sea and harbour views and a westerly aspect mean gorgeous sunsets. Red Sails is ideal for families or friends as all three bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms and is such a convenient location - just a short walk from village and beach. The house is fresh and light, rustic slate and wooden floors and its deep sofas and wood-burning stove make it comfortable summer and winter.
The front garden catches the afternoon sun so is a great place to sit and chat, while the more private rear deck, with summerhouse, has a wonderful view of harbour, hills and sunsets. Or just sit with a glass of wine on a window seat and watch the world. Off season, snuggle up in deep sofas in the glow of the wood-burning stove after a bracing walk.
Porthleven has an attractive harbour full of colourful fishing boats and is surrounded by interesting shops, galleries, pubs and restaurants. Red Sails is ideally situated between the village, the long stretch of beach and access to the coastal path with its magnificent views and picturesque villages.

The West Country / Cornwall region
Cornwall is full of history - from smugglers to stone circles; from trading to tin mines. There's plenty to do in and around Porthleven. How about Helston in May decked out for the famous Furry or Flora Dance and mummers play? Or take in the view while you watch a performance at the open-air Minack theatre (performances May to September).
The world-famous Eden Project is enjoyable and educational, Flambards is a fun day out for all the family and Poldark Mine gives you a history of Cornwall's tin mining days. Then there is a trip to Lands End, wonderful gardens Trebah, Trellisick ...... far too many enticements to list them all.
Porthleven area
Porthleven, a fishing village set in the broad sweep of Mounts Bay, is a holiday destination that entices people back year after year. This charming village, located between Lands End and Lizard Point on the Cornish coastal path route renowned for such magnificent views, is an ideal base for exploring the cliffs, coves and picturesque villages.
Summer and winter are both wonderful. In summer, the sea breezes make walking the cliffs strewn with wild flowers a joy and painting that masterpiece a possibility. The beach is unspoilt and uncommercialised making for relaxing family holidays. In winter, people watch the drama of the seas for hours with huge waves crashing over the granite pier. Painters, sculptors, potters, beautiful jewellery and glass design are making Porthleven an interesting place to shop too.
The village has a well-deserved reputation for food - keen cooks will love our award-winning fresh fish shop, the well-stocked deli and the locally-grown produce as well are delicious. And eating out? There is a great choice of restaurants and bars - the Atlantic Inn where you can enjoy great pub food sitting out front gazing out to sea, or sample the charm of the Ship Inn - a 17th Century fisherman's pub. Alternatively, sit by the harbour and snack on a traditional Cornish pasty or a bag of fish & chips and finish off with some home-made ice-cream (45 flavours to work through). After all you are on holiday!
