During the summer months, an abundance of wild flowers adorn the cliff tops, the warmth of the sun penetrates the soft sea breezes and the majesty of the coastline makes it one of the most beautiful places on earth.
In winter, the seas can be spectacular dramatic and the cliff tops stretching from Lands End to The Lizard attract walkers all year round. The clock tower, of the Bickford-Smith Institute, built in 1883 stands sentinel over the unspoilt harbour.
A great variety of restaurants, bars and authentic fisherman’s pubs offer menus to suit all tastes and price levels. From the contemporary Smoke House with its outdoor barbecue to the 17th Century Ship Inn. From local produce and seafood through to traditional Cornish pasties, Fish & Chips and home-made ice-cream, the village has a well deserved reputation for food and drink.
The growing number of art galleries and craft shops offering work by local artists makes Porthleven a great place for shopping too. Painters, Sculptors, Potters, Basket Weavers, Carvers and Jewellery Designers are among the many Cornish craftsmen that can be found in the boutique shops.
