About this location
The Cornwall region
Porthleven is nestled within the sweep of Mounts bay with its rugged coastline and breathtaking views. Built in Napoleonic times the picturesque harbour, still used by local fishermen, remains unspoilt by progress. The village boasts authentic Inns, sublime restaurants, intriguing galleries and craft studios.
At low tide it is possible to walk 2 miles along the beach to Loe Bar and the largest freshwater lake in Cornwall, an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Porthleven, as a holiday destination, can be enjoyed all year round. In the summer months the sweeping countryside is bathed with wild flowers while the beach rarely gets crowded.
In the winter the seas are wildly dramatic, the beaches invigorating and the cliff top views are awe-inspiring.
For those who wish to explore further afield, the Cathedral city of Truro is a short drive away, as are the towns of Penzance, Falmouth and St Ives. The Cornish North coast and Lands End are also within easy reach
