Home description

The house at Rinsey Head is situated on an unspoiled stretch of coast near Porthleven in West Cornwall. Located on the tip of Rinsey Head, the house has spectacular views towards the Lizard to the east and Lands End to the west. The grounds extend to about 11 hectares and are largely in their natural state, growing a mixture of wild flowers, heather, bracken and gorse. The coastline either side of the property is owned by the National Trust and the house stands alone. The area is designated an SSSI (Site of Special Scenic Interest).

The tidal beach of Rinsey Cove is about 200 metres to the east and Praa Sands is slightly further away and to the west. Both are about a 10 minute walk along the coastal footpath.

The highlight of the house is its position and has been used as a film location several times. It is built within yards of the sea and has views from each room that are better experienced than described. It is highly unusual in that it is not situated in a town or village and has no immediate neighbours, the nearest houses being inland in the hamlet of Rinsey. The terrace is particularly breathtaking, built some 80ft above the sea with sea and beach views on three sides.

The West Country / Cornwall region

This south-western county enjoys a milder climate than much of England, and consequently Cornwall has long been a popular summer getaway. The area provides the best surfing in England, with towns like Newquay, Bude and Croyde filling with enthusiasts every year. There is excellent walking on Bodmin Moor, domain of the legendary beast, and the coastline is wild and beautiful.

Porthleven area

Helston is a historic town, famous for the Flora Day. Porthleven is a traditional Cornish fishing town with a pretty harbour, pubs, shops and restaurants. St Michaels Mount lies a few miles to the west, occupying its own island accessed over a tidal causeway. Further afield, St Ives is a pictureque town and is home to the Tate St Ives and the Barbara Hepworth museum. For theatre lovers, the Minack Theatre offers an unmissable open air experience on the cliffs above Porthcurno. Activities for children are innumerable with a children's farm at Hayle, crazy golf at Praa Sands, the Flambards theme park at Helston and go-karts in Hayle. The entire list is too long to mention here!

How to get there

Rinsey Head is situated on the tip of a headland to the east of Praa Sands and is accessed via a 500 metre private drive from the National Trust carpark in Rinsey. Rinsey is a small hamlet between Praa Sands and Porthleven.

Penzance is the nearest railway station (11miles). Scheduled flights are available to Newquay (36 miles) and private flights can use Lands End St Just airfield (19 miles).

Local car hire is available.
