The St James Parish region
Villa 7 at Porters Court s ideally suited to explore the island. It is located on the prestigious West Coast in the parish of St. James. The crystal blue water of the Caribbean sea and a golden sandy beach is just 200 metres away and can be accessed by a path close by.
There is also a lovely beach and an excellent restaurant at Mullins Bay which is a short ride away - and here sun loungers and umbrellas can be hired for a small fee. The Royal Westmoreland Spa is also to be found at Mullins - for some serious pampering!!!!
For watersports fanatics there is plenty of opportunity to take part in a wide variety of activities including diving, snorkelling and waterskiing on many of the beaches.
If you can bear to leave the beach, Holetown is just half a mile to the south. Here you will find a well stocked supermarket, banks, coffee shops, a small branch of Cave Shepherd selling duty free goods, and even a business centre. Pay a visit to the Chattel House Village - a small collection of beautiful chattel-styled shops selling jewellery, swimwear, t-shirts and every type of souvenir imaginable.
Holetown also has some wonderful restaurants - many of which have tables overlooking the sea - such as Tides, Zaccios and the Beach Club. If you drive a little further along the coast past Holetown, you will find yet more wonderful restaurants such as Daphnes or The Cliff - one of the most acclaimed restaurants in the world.
Nearer to home you could sample the delights of the famous Lone Star Restaurant for lunch or dinner - just a five minute walk , or visit the beachfront restaurant at the luxurious Royal Pavillion Hotel - just two minutes away. This is an excellent choice for breakfast, lunch or dinner - offering superb food and a first class service. It is also one of our favourite places to watch the sun set - while relaxing with a rum punch!!!
Further afield, Bridgetown, the capital is about a 30 minute drive south along the stunning coastal road. It is a lively, bustling down - and well worth a visit.
For the golf enthusiasts, Porters Court is a 5-minute drive away from the Royal Westmoreland Golf Course and a 10-minute drive from the Sandy Lane Golf Course - two of the finest golf courses in the Caribbean.
It is not essential to hire a car during your stay. There is an excellent bus service along the West Coast and you can easily pick up one of the fast and frequent buses to get around. Taxis are in plentiful supply too. However if you like your independence and really want to explore the island at your leisure car hire is easily available through companies such as Stoutes Car Rental - who offer all my guests a 10% discount (www.stoutes.com).
A trip to Bathsheba on the rugged East coast is a must - view the dramatic Atlantic sea roll in while having lunch at The Round House.
The newly renovated Harrison's Caves - one of the island's most famous and popular attractions - is well worth a visit.
