The County Down region

Portaferry is Northern Ireland's only aquarium, Exploris. This is an interpretative centre for Strangford Lough and the Irish Sea, giving a fascinating insight into sealife and habitat for the lough shore. A recent development to Exploris is the Seal Sanctuary, where seals are brought in for rehabilitation and are released back into the wild when they make a full recovery. Portaferry is a water sports paradise and home to Northern Irelands only aquarium. This is a charming location and a wonderful base for a holiday

Portaferry

This cosy fisherman's cottage in the heart of Portaferry is only yards from the marina and many excellent restaurants, cafes and pubs. It is beautifully presented with a blend of traditional and modern features and a well equipped kitchen, cosy lounge and a sunny south facing enclosed garden, perfect for that glass of wine and BBQ after a days touring this magnificent area. There is lots to do from golfing in the many local courses to visiting the national trust properties. Enjoy the golden beach at Cloughey 5 miles away or cross the Lough and savour the atmosphere of Strangford village.

The Ferry sails every half hour, every day of the year (except Christmas Day) providing a link with South Down, Downpatrick and the Mournes. With Strangford Lough considered one of the most important marine sites in Europe.
