Home description
Oak Glen Cottage is a picturesque five star holiday log cottage, situated in the Uusimaa region, approximately 45 km north-east of Helsinki. The cottage rests within its own large garden and is surrounded by fields and forests. It is exceptionally quiet and peaceful, and the front terrace and upstairs balcony allow perfect viewing of the sunsets and sunrises. The garden has a spring water pond (35m x 30m and on average two metres deep), with swimming ladders, and is often frequented by various types of ducks and dragon flies! A swimming hole can be opened upon request during the winter months. There is also a public swimming beach on the bank of the River Mustijoki 3 km away.

The Southern Finland region
Four Seasons and Many Reasons to come to Finland! Looking for space, fresh air, stimulating cultural events and exciting activities? You have arrived at exactly the right place. Finland’s seasonal contrasts and pristine natural environment provide the setting for a dazzling and inspiring variety of adventures and new experiences.
Finland’s claim to be one of Europe’s last wildernesses is well-founded. The country, covered with broad lakes and enormous forests, is bigger than the UK but contains only a twelfth of its population, so getting away from the crowds is much easier here than in many other European countries.
Pornainen / Halkia area
Close by town Järvenpää is best known as the home town of the master composer Jean Sibelius. Sibelius built his log villa Ainola to be "sufficiently far from the temptations of Helsinki". He and his family lived at Ainola for more than fifty years. The spirit of Jean Sibelius is very much alive at Ainola. The museum, maintained to preserve a home-like atmosphere, is open to public from May to the end of September.
Along the shores of Lake Tuusulanjärvi, a unique community of artists flourished at the turn of the century, led by the nationally famous author Juhani Aho and his painter wife Venny Soldan-Brofeldt. Along with Jean Sibelius, this influential group included the poets J.H. Erkko and Eino Leino as well as painters Eero Järnefelt and Pekka Halonen.
