The West Country / Somerset region

Exmoor - Britain's best kept secret...

Peace and tranquillity - cries of curlews and song of skylarks - an ancient beautiful and unspoilt landscape. Picturesque mixture of farmland, forest and open moor - Dramatic coastline - Fast flowing rivers- Pretty villages with thatched cottages

The Coach House is situated in a peaceful and unspoilt corner of the west of England near the Somerset/Devon border, in the heart of the Exmoor National Park - an area of outstanding natural beauty. The accommodation nestles at the foot of the ancient oak woodland that forms the lower slopes of Exmoor. The grounds are fringed by the sea and there are spectacular views across the bay to the coast of Wales beyond.

Porlock Weir area

Porlock Weir, a little port a mile West of the main village, played a vital part in the life of eastern Exmoor over the centuries when the sea route was by far the easiest way to and from the area.

A pebbly four mile long beach comprised of a shingle ridge of considerable archaeological and geographical significance. There is fabulous marshland behind the beach which is home to numerous birds. Popular for swimming, fishing, surfing and sailing -although care needs to be taken when swimming, and surfing should only be undertaken by experienced surfers.

Drive through the village and at the end of the village take the right hand fork (direction Porlock Weir). About one and a half miles down there you see signed ‘Porlock Weir’, take a left turn there and we are the first house on the right.
