The West Country / Dorset region

Dorset's attractions are the mild climate, golden sandy beaches, beautiful coastline and countryside. It's weather is favourable, Dorset having amongst the most sunshine hours per year in the UK.

The Jurassic Coast in Dorset is unrivalled - its status as a World Heritage Site confirms that it's amongst the most significant in the world.

You can take ferries around Poole harbour and to the National Trust island of Brownsea, or take the chainlink ferry from Sandbanks across to Studland Bay or Swanage.

The New Forest is a 30 minute drive away for unmatched beauty and places to explore for all the family. Or why not consider a day trip to Jersey, Guernsey or France? All easily accessible from Poole.

Poole / Poole Quay area

POOLE offers you an exciting getaway anytime of year, from watersports, shopping, great restaurants, woodlands, a stunning natural harbour and miles of family-friends beaches on your doorstep.

2 minutes walk from the property is WHITECLIFF PARK . Newly opened in the park from Spring 2009 is a fantastic children's outdoor playground overlooking the harbour. The path around the harbours edge in the park leads directly into POOLE QUAY, where there are daily boat trips, an RNLI museum, children crabbing, waterside cafes and restaurants and lots to see and do. POOLE PARK is a 10 minute walk from the house and boasts 109 acres to explore of which 60 are water. Poole Park is lovely on a hot day but also has an iceskating rink and indoor softplay to amuse children on cooler days.

Of course no visit to Poole is complete without a trip to the BEACHES - arguably the best in England. We are fortunate to be 10mins by car to the beach at Sandbanks, a European Blue Flag holder for 20 years. Or for a change the beaches at Bournemouth, Branksome Chine and the National Trust beaches at Studland are in very easy reach.

For those interested in watersports, there is windsurfing tuition available at Whitley Bay, Sandbanks; sailing tuition at Rockley Watersports, Hamworthy, Poole; scuba diving off Swanage and sea fishing trips from Poole Harbour. Water-skiing, wakeboarding and parasurfing also take place in Poole harbour. Mountain biking is a popular activity in the nearby Purbeck Hills.

We provide plenty of up to date information at the house during your stay about the local and surrounding areas.
