BookThe West Country / Dorset region
Dorset is a very popular holiday destination all year round and is famous for its beautiful scenery, miles of sandy Blue Flag beaches and the Jurassic coastline to the west.
The nearby Purbecks and Swanage can be reached by car, bus, boat, bike or steam train. Chesil beach, Monkey World, Corfe Castle, Durdle Door and the New Forest are all a short drive away. Southampton, Portsmouth and Salisbury are easily accessible either by car or public transport and London is only two hours' drive away.
For those who want to travel further afield, there is a ferry service from Lymington, Southampton and Portsmouth to the Isle of Wight, which is famous for its coloured sands.
The Poole / Canford Cliffs area
Canford Cliffs is an affluent suburb of Poole situated on the coast halfway between Poole and Bournemouth. It adjoins Sandbanks, which is famous for having some of the highest property values in the world. Canford Cliffs Village is less than 5 minutes' walk away and boasts many bars/bistros and shops. The nearest beach is at Flaghead Chine, less than 10 minutes' walk away, which is sandy and flat and leads onto Sandbanks beach to the west. The neighbouring waters are relatively shallow, making this a popular area for all types of water sports, especially wind and kite-surfing.
The South's finest privately owned historic gardens, Compton Acres, offering spectacular views over Poole Harbour and the distant Purbeck Hills, is a short stroll away and it is open to the public on a daily basis. It offers seven distinct gardens to wander around and enjoy, including the Italian Garden and the Japanese Garden. As well as its beautiful ten acres of gardens, there are shops, restaurants, a cafe and regular events. Compton Acres is fast becoming one of the most visited and prestigious family attractions on the South Coast.
Bournemouth town is just 10 minutes' drive away to the east and is an excellent tourist and regional centre for leisure, recreation, entertainment, culture and shopping. The award-winning Bournemouth Gardens surround the River Bourne in the town centre, and these host various events throughout the Summer. Bournemouth Gardens lead down to Bournemouth Pier past the Pavillion which, along with the nearby BIC, together host many popular musical concerts and shows to suit all tastes. Bournemouth Pier has been recently given a facelift and the immediate area has several cafes, restaurants and bars as well as various amusements and rides for children. To the east of Bournemouth, at Boscombe, a man-made surf reef has recently been completed, together with associated leisure and recreation facilities. The Bournemouth Eye balloon offers a panoramic view of the entire area.
Poole town is a similar distance away to the north west. Poole harbour is the second largest natural harbor in the world, where you can take a boat trip to several places of interest, including Swanage and Brownsea Island. There is also a chain ferry at Sandbanks, which offers a regular service to Swanage taking less than 5 minutes, either on foot, by car or by bus.
There will be a free Folk Festival on the Quay on 29-30 June organised by the local radio station, Wave 105..
The Sandbanks Beach Polo Championships will be held on 12 and 13 July 2013.
The Bournemouth Air Festival will be held over a period of 4 days commencing Thursday 29 August to Sunday 1 September 2013.
Every Friday night in August at 10.00 p.m. there is a spectacular firework display beside Bournemouth Pier which can be seen from several nearby vantage points. Poole Harbour also hosts firework displays on a Thursday at 10.00 p.m. from 25 July to 29 August.
The area enjoys its own micro-climate, and as such benefits from some of the best and sunniest weather in the country.

We stayed at Foxwood for 1 week, my husband and our 4 and 2 year olds. We were very comfortable. The kitchen is small, as described, but was perfectly adequate for breakfasts, making picnic lunches and a few simple dinners. The bathrooms are excellent, the beds comfortable. The garden was useful for our little ones, and well secured. The view of the trees was lovely. The proximity to the beach was great. Canford Cliffs is well located for supermarkets, and we used a few restaurants and a take away nearby, all were good experiences. There is loads to do in Poole, we intend to go back, when we do we hope to stay at Foxwood again. |

Foxwood was in a lovely location, with beautiful views and very peaceful. It was an easy walk to the beach and there were plenty of places to eat within walking distance, as well as a variety of local shops to buy food. The accommodation was very comfortable, with lovely bathrooms and we all enjoyed our stay there very much. |
