The North West Ireland region
This property is located in the sleepy village of Lahardane (population is about 500), adjacent to Lough Conn and with views of the Nephin Mountain. It is very close to Pontoon (12km), Crossmolina (9km) and the towns of Castlebar (27km), Ballina (21km) and Foxford (17km). The great advantage of this property is that it is only a 2 minute walk away from the local shop and pubs while still having the peace and tranquillity of a rural setting.
Addergoole parish suffered the largest proportionate loss for any locality probably in the world when the RMS Titanic sank in 1912. The Addergoole Fourteen boarded the ship at Queenstown (Cobh), County Cork. Three survived the disaster. There is a plaque in St Patrick's Church, Lahardane to the memory of the fourteen and last year on the 100th anniversary a memorial park was opened in the village.
Fishing is one of the main attractions for visitors to this friendly Mayo village. Lahardane is only a short distance from Lough Conn and the smaller Lough Cullen, both of which are part of the great natural fishing waters of Ireland and famed worldwide for their large stocks of salmon and brown trout fished each year by avid anglers from many parts of the globe.
Visiting anglers who make Lahardane their base can also choose to fish the great river Moy where it flows through Foxford only a few miles away, or can hire a boat and fish for salmon and sea-trout on nearby Lake Beltra, near Glenisland. Nearby Lough Levally will furnish their needs if interested in fishing for pike. Boats & Gillies can be hired/arranged locally by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Also a good website to check is
For the sea lovers there are few regions in Europe to match the quality of Mayo's beaches and the County is the proud holder of no less than 13 Blue Flag awards. The closest Blue Flag beach is in Mulranny and there is also a beautiful sandy beach in Enniscrone, both less than an hours drive away.
There are a number of golf courses in the area to cater for all level's from the 9 hole course in Swinford to the Links courses in Carne and Enniscrone. See the following website for details on courses and prices
Pony trekking, cycling and nature walks are also very popular activities in the area with numerous walking trails, an excellent way to take in the beautiful scenery of bog lands, lakeshores, mountains and riverbanks. For horse riding/pony trekking contact Barnfield Equestrian Centre in Knockmore, Ballina on +353 94 9258175 or check out the many walking trails at www.mayowalks.ie
Alternatively The Great Western Greenway, the longest off-road walking and cycling trail in Ireland, is less than an hours drive away. See
Mayo's other visitor attractions include the Ceide Fields, Croagh Patrick, Foxford Woollen Mills, Achill Island, Knock Shrine and Museum to name but a few. For kids there is Kiltimagh Pet Farm, Funster Playcentre in Castlebar and Westport House and Pirate Adventure Park.
The property is ideal for families or groups of anglers/golfers/walkers/cyclists/artists.

"Exceeded All Expectations"
I booked this house at the last minute to go away for a few days with my husband, sister-in-law and all our children (6 in total). After a very long drive and arriving later than expected we were absolutely delighted when we saw the house. It's completely immaculate, three of the four bedrooms had en-suites and everything is of the highest quality. Jim the owner left us all the essentials (including a lovely bottle of wine!) along with a folder detailing lots of things to do in the area. It's a great base for exploring Mayo - the beach is about 25 mins away, Westport about 45 minutes. Our only regret was that we hadn't booked to stay for longer as we just didn't have time to explore the area properly.
I would definitely recommend this house and hope to get back again next year for a longer stay
Thanks so much Daphne for the lovely review. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to welcoming you and your family back next year. Jim & Maeve
