Abeille
About the home
Abeille is a mid-18th century farmhouse on three floors, built of Breton stone under a slate roof, in a quiet setting on the edge of a village in central Brittany. The house is newly renovated, but has retained its character, with original large chestnut beams throughout.
The 8 x 4m private heated swimming pool, which is for the sole use of quests staying in Abeille, is in the south facing garden, and is surrounded by a hedge and trees with shurb borders and a lawn. The Brittany / Morbihan region

The village of Perret has a bar, which also sells groceries, bread, stamps and fishing permits. The picturesque village features stone cottages, a medieval church and an adjoining presbytery.
Three towns, each with a supermarket, are : Gourece to the north a five minute drive , Cleguerec to the east alsofive minutes and Guemene-sur-Scorff to the south a ten minute drive. There is a wide and varied choice of local restaurants which provide great value menus. A typical Breton lunch starts around €10 for four courses including wine, water and bread.
Perret is well known for its many walking paths, which all start from the village centre. One of the walks follows the historic route of the kings of Brittany and wends into the local forest and onto the Lac de Guerledan.
The Pontivy area
This region of France is steeped in cultural and historical sights, such as the Chateau of Pontivy, the Chateau town of Josselin, the Nantes to Brest Canal, and the Quenecan Forest. The south coasts of Brittany are within easy travelling distance, with sandy beaches, fishing ports and restaurants to suit every budget and taste. Other places worth visiting include aquariums at Brest and St. Malo, the zoo at Pont Scorff, the fish market at Port de Peche, and artisan street markets at the citadel town of Hennebont each Thursday.
The area offers many street markets and annual festivals. The "Fete de l'Andouille" takes place in Guemene every August with street displays and dancing. L'Orient hosts an international week long music festival each year. There is also the spectacular "Son et Lumiere" at the historic Abbaye Bon Repos, among the forests surrounding the canal linking Nantes to Brest.
The jewel of the area is Lac de Guerledan, which is just five minutes away. The lake is ideal for swimming, watersports and picnics, with sandy coves, safe bathing, play areas, boating, water skiing and canoeing. Around the lake visitors can enjoy cycling, woodland walks and dining in the restaurants and bars.

Thank you for letting us stay at Abeille. It is a beautifully renovated house with everything you could need for a break away from it all. The garden and terrace are a wonderfully relaxing place to spend an evening after a day exploring the beautiful Brittany countryside. The swimming pool is a marvellous addition and you will have trouble keeping your children out of it . Perret really is ideally located for days out exploring or trips to the coast. I highly recommend Abeille and thank the owners, Sheila and Adrian Furnival , who made us feel very welcome. I look forward to coming back next year. |
