Chained Heart Cottage
About the home
Chained Heart Cottage is a converted milking parlour and takes its name from an evocative and enigmatic stone carving on the façade of the main house. We hope the symbolism is appropriate and that guests will find it hard to depart.
The accommodation sleeps 8+ in four bedrooms. It consists, on the ground floor, of a spacious lounge/kitchen area featuring an attractive stone fireplace and master bedroom with en-suite bathroom (bath/shower) and washing machine.
The American-style fitted kitchen is fully equipped with extensive work surfaces; a dishwasher, fridge/freezer and microwave are provided. Upstairs there are 2 spacious twin bedrooms and a third airy bedroom with 3 "lits coins", traditional carved Breton beds, and a sofa bed. There is a shared upstairs bathroom with shower cubicle. The Brittany / Morbihan region

Engaging scenery, charming villages, warm people…
Fine foods and good wine, a peaceful rural setting, relaxing outdoor pursuits and many beautiful beaches.
The Morbihan region of southern Brittany can supply all of this... and more.
This quiet fishing and farming region of France is blessed with a beautiful and varied coastline and an interior of lush farmland, woods and moors to delight the country lovers.
The native Breton people, of Celtic descent appreciate their visitors and provide a warm welcome. Their local 'Pardons' and 'Fetes', regional costumes, music, dances, legends and language maintained by the Bretons are a large part of the area's unique charm.
Brittany 's restaurants and bistros supply some of the best of French provincial cooking, very reasonably priced and in generous proportions.
You can't leave without sampling its 'fruits de mer', crepes and cider.
Brittany 's rolling hills, dense forests and lazy rivers, offer a variety of activities; from walking, riding and cycling to fishing and canoeing.
The rich architectural and archaeological heritage provide for excellent one-day tours; the fascinating towns of Pontivy, Josselin, Dinan and Vannes are full of historical interest. Then, of course, there are the megaliths, churches and for the stout-hearted there's the 'quest for the Holy Grail' and the Arthurian legend.
To the south, a short traffic-free drive away, is the beautiful Golfe du Morbihan, a yachtsman's paradise, with all manner of water-sports and numerous little islands to visit on the regular ferries.
Or just relax in the sunshine on an endless choice of beautiful beaches. Additionally the large lakes at Guerledan and Priziac offer excellent facilities for swimming, boating and sunbathing.
Each cottage has details of local amenities and resorts to help you plan your holiday.
Morbihan offers a wealth of activities all within 45 minutes of the cottages.
The Pontivy / Plumeliau area
Pontivy was chosen by Napoleon as a garrison town and renamed Napoleonville for a while. It is a charming country town on the River Blavet with many beautiful half-timbered, corbelled and turreted houses, cobbled streets and attractive shops in the old quarter around the 16th century church of Notre Dame de la Joie.
The 15th century Castle of the Dukes of Rohan with its two remaining towers is well-worth a visit. There is a good variety of restaurants, cafes, interesting shops and good supermarkets. Pontivy has an open-air swimming pool. Market day is Monday.
Cycling for all stages from the gentle towpaths beside the Blavet river, through quiet country lanes and villages to the more exacting marked trails. Bicycles are available to hire locally.
Fishing; all types of angling is catered for and daily or weekly permits are available.

Historic towns such as Pontivy, Auray Vannes Josselin and Quimper have retained much of their medieval character and are well worth a visit.

Guestbook for Chained Heart Cottage
"What a wonderful house! We’ve had a lovely time meeting up with all our family in all three cottages. Wonderful scenery and food and wine!! Why do we live where we do when there are places like this?
Thank you for your hospitality. Now all we have to do is return again with our friends!"
1 July, Holland.
"Best place we have ever stayed in because the house is big, it’s a lovely accommodation and it’s brilliant for the whole family. The pool is clean and refreshing to be in, in hot weather. The dogs are well trained and very friendly. We will defiantly be back".
"Moved into “Chained Heart” from the “Coach House” – both extremely comfortable gites. This one has the benefit of the fire – lovely on chilly evenings! Everything you need is provided. Marion and girls are lovely hosts. We will miss the dogs – all of them! Can’t complain about the weather it has been very good for this time of year – bright, clear crisp mornings with sunshine during the day. The Manoir and gites are beautifully renovated and a real pleasure to stay at. This is our last stop unfortunately before returning to the UK but a great place to have ended on! Thank you".
