We have an old longere 120 years old approximately and the gite which is attached to the longere used to be a bakery and we have totally renovated this in a traditional french style so it has a lovely homely feel when you enter the accommodation. The original beams have been left in place throughout. The accommodation is spacious and very welcoming and set in 2,500 sq metres of land to the rear and ample parking to front. We have an old barn and workshop and cattleshed attached to the gite which all adds to the character we stack all our logs in the barn and called our property "Les Hiboux" which means owl in French as when we arrived the owls were in residence and are still nearby.

We are set in a small hamlet in a farming community but near to local bars and restaurants and shops there are many nearby local attractions and it is a dream holiday for people who love walking or cycling or just visiting these places by car. We are close to Lac de Guerledan with its sandy beaches and surrounded by woodland walks or the Abbaye of Bon Repos which is a very popular even with the French holidaymakers because of the wonderful surroundings of old buildings and the canal walks.

Lac de Guerledan will be emptied from May to October 2015 the first time since 1985 and probably the last visitors can see the old buildings hidden beneath the water for years and watch the barrage being maintained.

The Brittany region

We are close to many local attractions. The historic town of Pontivy is only 15 minutes away where you can visit the castle and many other old buildings that Napolean had a hand in building. There is a large outside market a few times a week, lovely shops and restaurants and cafe's. There is a large open air swimming pool with lawns and slides and a large indoor pool a short distance away.

Cleguerec is our local town which has all you need, chemist, butchers, bakers, supermarket, banks, florist, garden centre and petrol station, four local bars two of which have restaurants and only a ten minute drive.

St Brigitte which is walking distance from the gite has a lovely old church which has recently been renovated inside. Two bars one of which serves the most wonderful crepes. Silfiac which is 5 minutes driving has two bars one of which does food and the other one has a small shop attached to it which sells everything from baguette's, to wine or cat food.

All through the year there are many music festivals, large Brocante's (car boot sales) and many other festivities. The climate is warm this summer was very hot. If you like beaches Lorient is about 45 minutes away, St Malo is about a hour and a half and is a wonderful place to visit. There are lovely walks in the forest or along the canal all close by and if you enjoy cycling it is the ideal place to have your holiday.

"Friendly, comfortable, well equipped and beautiful surroundings"

We spent a very relaxing week at Les Hiboux. The owners are very friendly but not intrusive. The renovation of the barn has been tastefully completed and the gite was very well equipped and comfortabl… More
