Home description
O Curralino is a lovely old stone farmhouse standing on an acre and a half of mixed meadow and woodland in the middle of a beautiful, peaceful valley in the province of Pontevedra. It has two adjoining though completely independent parts available for rent: Casita del Norte, with two bedrooms, and Casita del Sur with one bedroom. Both cottages have private terraces and views over farmland, forests and vineyards, and the property ajoins a woodland of oak and sweet chestnut on either side of a small river, ideal for cooling off on hot summer days. Mount Acibal, just behind O Curralino, has miles of tracks perfect for walking or mountain-biking. O Curralino is 55 minutes from the airport at Santiago de Compostela, and 25 minutes from the beautiful medieval town of Pontevedra. The unspoilt beaches of the Rias Baixas are within half an hour, where there are many choices, ranging from protected coves to ocean-facing surf beaches.

The Galicia region
Galicia is an autonomous region in the north-west of Spain, divided into four provinces - namely A Coruna, Lugo, Pontevedra and Orense. The province of Pontevedra is home to the Rias Baixas, coastal inlets similar to fjords, boasting not only the best weather in the region, but also incomparable seafood, and the world class white wine, Albarino. The coastal district of Pontevedra, where O Curralino is situated, has a landscape that has been described as one of the last remaining examples of medieval strip farming in Europe with a patchwork of often terraced vineyards, pasture, maize and vegetable fields. Atmospheric tapas bars abound in the streets and plazas of the old town of Pontevedra and the villages that line the coast, where delicious regional specialities can be sampled. The whole of Santiago de Compostela's old town has been designated a Unesco World Heritage site, and is an unforgettable experience.
Pontevedra / Morana area
The medieval city of Pontevedra with all its attractions is only 25 minutes from O Curralino, while closer to home are many places of interest including waterfalls, river swimming pools, prehistoric rock carvings and more. There are miles of walking and mountain biking tracks on the doorstep, and within 15 minutes are two spa towns where you can relax in thermal pools. Across the valley in the village of Amil, the huge fiesta of Los Milagros de Amil occurs on the second weekend in September, where wooden platters of octopus are served with large bowls of wine, and the dancing goes on till dawn. Further afield, but within easy reach, are the wild Atlantic beaches of Finisterra and to the south the beautiful, well-preserved towns of northern Portugal.
How to get there
O Curralino is 55 minutes from the airport at Santiago de Compostela, an hour and a half from La Coruna and two hours from Porto airport (Portugal). Ryanair flies to Santiago de Compostela from London Stanstead, Liverpool, Frankfurt, and Rome. Ryanair flies to Porto from London Stanstead, Liverpool, Bristol and Dublin. Clickair (Iberia) flies to La Coruna from London Heathrow. TAP (Air Portugal) flies to Porto from London Gatwick and London Heathrow.
Santander, (400km away) is serviced by a car ferry from Plymouth.

Further details indoors: Casita del Norte is a two bedroom cottage with a well appointed kitchen/dining area and a comfortable lounge with a wood burning stove and underfloor heating. There are two bedrooms, both with beautiful views. Bedroom 1 is a double room and bedroom 2 has the option of either three single beds or a large double and one single (sleeps 5). The bathroom has a bath and powerful shower.
Further details outdoors: In the garden in front of the cottage is a small stone table and seating area, ideal for catching the last of the evening sun, while the kitchen leads onto a patio and lawn with a barbeque and shaded dining area with beautiful views of the valley. Around the house is meadow and woodland offering plenty of space for outdoor fun with shady and sunny spots for lounging.

Conditions
On booking, we ask for a 25% non-refundable deposit with the remainder payable one month before arrival. There is also a refundable damages/loss deposit of 70 pounds/100 euros.
