About the home

Lily Cottage is a lovely 2 Bedroom detached 19th Century Country Cottage set in a very peaceful and secluded location down a cobblestone track yet easily accessed from Porto Airport and within easy reach of this most wonderful area of Portugal. It has been totally rebuilt and refurbished over the past couple of years to a very high standard making it excellent accommodation not only visually but comfortwise. The views from the terrace are outstanding. If you are looking for somewhere to "chill out" then this is the place for you, look no further!!!
The nearest amenities are just one mile away. Our clients who have stayed at Lily Cottage have enjoyed a multitude of local activities including, walking, golf, visiting the National Parks, cycling, surfing,drawing and painting, fishing, relaxing on the beach and generally exploring the area. During the summer months there are many festivals at most of the towns and villages.

The double bed in the master bedroom is a Zip and Link design and can easily be converted into two singles at the clients prior request.

The lounge has two leather reclining chairs with footstools and matching two seater reclining settee. British satellite TV is installed. Reception is dependant on weather and atmospheric conditions and strength of the satellite signal which may vary from time to time.

The kitchen is fully equipped for self catering.

The nearest shop is a family run Village store at 1.6 KM selling virtually everything from fresh bread to refrigerators!!!

The bathroom is large with enough room for a wheelchair to turn.

Lily Cottage has a large private terrace. In the garden there are olive trees, orange trees, lemon trees, roses, geraniums, camilias, marigolds, carnations, and many more.

The property is south facing and has a good amount of garden furniture, sunloungers etc.

There is no Pool at Lily Cottage.

Further details

The maid who lives in the next village will clean and service the cottage on a weekly basis and prior to the arrival of the next client.

There is an English speaking representative living in the area who would be on hand to answer any questions.

In order to save space and weight on flights, beach towels will be included, one per person to a maximum of four.


For negotiated long term lets, fuel charges may apply.

Sheets and towels, laundry and cleaning are all included in the price.

Changeover day is flexible giving the opportunity of booking less expensive air fares.

In the unlike event of requiring extra heating, there is normally a supply of logs which can be used in the logburning stove in the lounge. If central heating is required there will be a fuel surcharge imposed.

Conditions

A 25% deposit is payable on booking the cottage. The balance to be paid 8 weeks before the start of the holiday.

The Costa Verde region

This region is generally known as the "Real Portugal" It's a lovely climate with temperatures ranging from 20 - 30 degrees between April and October.

Barcelos has a weekly market on Thursdays reputed to be the largest outdoor market in Portugal.

Viana do Castelo is still a working port where shipbuilding still continues. There is a large fish market where you can buy direct from the daily catches. Viana do Castelo has a wonderful selection of restaurants with local dishes and more Cosmopolitan menus available. There is a train station in Viana do Castelo where you can travel south to Oporto or north to Spain.

There are three golf courses in this area, an excellent woodlands course in Ponte de Lima (with a par 5 of some 600 metres) A nice 9 hole course in Esposende, set in a holiday complex, and ideal course for the more leisurely round of golf but always in good condition with excellent catering faciclities. Probably the nicest course in the area is at Estela.

This is a delightful links style course adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean. Estela plays host to many corporate golf days as well as having staged the Portuguese Open in the past. It is an 18 hole course with excellent facilities.
Inside the cottage are full details of the golf courses, location, directions, phone numbers etc.

Portugal boasts of some 100KM of beaches between Oporto and the river Minho which borders Spain.
The North of Portugal is an ideal area to explore, the people are friendly and many of the villages have hardly changed over many years. You will see carts drawn by oxen and donkeys. Food and drink is very reasonably priced compared with other parts of Portugal.

The National Parks are within easy reach which are vast areas of forests hosting many species of birds and animals.

The Ponte de Lima area

During the summer months there are many festivals throughout the North of Portugal. In July/August there is usually an equine event in the purpose built outdoor arena in Ponte de Lima.
Entrance is free to this show. Show jumping and dressage are among the events. During the summer the Flower Festival is held and is a great attraction. Most of the towns in the area have a "Tourismo" office with details of all the local events. It is advisable to call into these office as local events may alter on a weekly basis and many of the receptionists speak English.
