The Brittany / Finistere region
The cottage is situated on the southern coast of Brittany, in a frost-free, mild climate zone (mimosa trees and lizards on the property) and good sunshine records according to the French Meteo.
Close to the interesting town of Concarneau and the regional capital of Quimper. Lots of pretty rivers and villages.
The Breton's affinity to the sea is evident: picturesque fishing ports, sea food, and many boat trips to islands such as the Ile de Groix, Belle Ile and Iles de Glenan. Lots of kiddies attractions such as Pont Scorff Zoo.
The Pont-Aven / Riec-sur-Belon area
Pont-Aven sprung to life during the late 19th century when a large international artistic colony was established. This tradition continues today and Pont-Aven boasts numerous galleries, interesting shops and a famous museum. There is a beautiful 1-hour boat trip along the Aven river to the sea (times subject to tides).
In the summer each parish has a Breton pardon (religious festival) with people in costumes and non-religious activities.
Riec-sur-Belon has a good supermarket and a full range of other shops and banks.
There is a creperie 5 minutes' walk from the cottage, and a bar/restaurant overlooking the river Aven, 10 minutes' walk away. A good boulangerie is located nearby - 3 minutes drive or 10 minutes by bicycle.
There are river beaches on the Belon and Aven; as well as numerous seaside beaches at Kerfany, Port Manech, Raguenes, Tregunc etc.

GREAT What more can one say? The cottage is just as described and met our expectations perfectly. We felt at home immediately and enjoyed exploring the thoughtfully decorated corners and fully equipped rooms of this comfortable home. The conservatory was especially appreciated both as a quiet place to read and a sunny place to eat as well as good bird watching. The surrounding country side is ideal for leisurely bike trips and phenomenal for cliff top, coastal walking. Sandy beaches galore if one is ready to walk for a while. Great pleasure was had in ferreting out the best places to buy the freshest lobster, oysters, crabs, mussels, clams, shrimp, langoustine, mackerel, sole and even kippers. Highly recommended are Chez Jacky and the fish monger in Riec sur Belon. The market in Moelan sur Mer is not to be missed for fresh fruit and vegetables. And the local bakery provides super croissant and baquette to start the day have no equal. |

Having spent a week each Autumn in different parts of France, with a friend, for the last 17 years, I was delighted this year to find an ideal gite in a part of Brittany where we had not stayed. This gite is perfect for a quiet, comfortable stay in a lovely area. We were just 2 adult guests and found everything very clean and welcoming. The kitchen was well equipped and all appliances were in good working order. There was plenty of hot water. The steep, open-tread, stairs to the lst floor have to be taken with care. One of us used the downstairs bedroom and shower-room, which are ideal for someone who finds steep stairs difficult. The local shopping is a pleasure and there are many interesting places to visit. |

Lovely cottage in a perfect location for enjoying everything that Britanny has to offer. Pleasantly furnished and well equipped for a relaxing holiday for parents with plenty to keep teenagers occupied. The large peaceful garden was delightful especially after the busy streets of Pont Aven. |
