Charente Maritime is one of the most beautiful areas in France, The property is well situated for sight seeing, with Bordeaux in the south, Royan in the west , La Rochelle in the north and Anguoleme in the east. We are located about in the middle of them all!. There are numerous activities in the area.
Cognac is approx 17 klms from the property with its distilleries, shops and supermarkets. Slightly further a field is the historical town of Saintes with its Roman history.
The property has been constructed from a barn which was built in 1924, as already stated it is new and all the fittings are new. The luxury showeroom is located on the ground floor at the rear of the spacioucs living accommodation, which consists of a large well fitted Kitchen and dining area, lounge area has large oak bed settee, which accommadates two sleeping places.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Charente Maritime region
The region is very much agricultural, of which the bulk is vinyards for the production of cognac. The lay of the land is quite flat and ideal for cycling or walking. driving around the countryside is a pleasure as the roads are not congested. If we set off south towards Blaye, you start to run into the vinyards of Bordeaux where you can purchase the local produce from the side of the road. Also located at Blaye is a fort with a moat, the castle over looks the estuary of the La Gironde. Going along the coast northwest towards Royan you can visit the small but beautiful seaside Halmet of Talmont well know for its church . Royan has a large beach located next to the restaurants and shops well worth a visit. For a good day out there is the Island of 'ILE D'OLERON, with oyster beds and good surfing beachs. You can purchase oysters from the colourful huts at the side of the road. For those who have an intrest in the second world war, there is the silent village of Oradour - Sur - Glane, this village and the people, where distroyed by the retreating German army, the village has been left as it was. The distance from the cottage is approx 138klms about a two hour drive.
Pons area
Pons is a unspoilt town with a few bars and cafe's good parking for cars can befound by the Tower castle in the centre of pons, The tower is open to the Public most of the Year. Jonzac is a very nice historical place,and there is a indoor waterpark with its own indoor beach ,water slides and restaurant. Water jousting can be found on a weekend in Cognac down by the river, this is where the rival cognac houses fight it out. (only in the summer). There are numerous markets and Brocantes run from April through to October, we have a book which provides up todate info on the dates places and size of each brocantes.
How to get there
The location of the cottage is well situated,if you want to fly or drive. Both Bordeaux and La Rochelle airports are approx one hours drive, plus there is the opening of Anguoleme airport (2008) which will also be about one hours drive. Pons is approximately 15 klms from the property.
For those who wish to drive we are midway between the A10 (j36) and the N10 (Barbezieux). We have undertaken the drive from most Ferry Ports the longest drive being Dunkerque ( 8.5 hrs), the shortest being St-Malo (5.0 hrs).

Further details indoors: There is a good sized mezzanine bedroom which has a set of drawers and wardrobe. This section can be screened off if required.All towels and bed linen are provided, (except beach towels). .
Heating if required is by a large cast iron gas stove,and electric panel heating. We have a large range of videos and DVDs to rent for 1 euro/night. when you fancy a night in watching the tele.
Further details outdoors: Externally there is a private garden with BBQ, table and chairs , there is a large sun shade for when you need to retreat from the sun, extra tables and chairs are available on request should you have some vistors,. At the rear of the garden, through a gate is access to clothes drying area.
Parking for two cars is to the front of the premises in a gated area.
We have two bicycles both are used but roadworthy, sorry no helmets.(one male , one female) Touring motorcycles can be parked on hard standing again to the front of the building.

Most of the facilities are all located on the ground floor , so please feel free to contact us if you have a member of the family in a wheechair, as we maybe able to accommadate. We do not permit smoking inside the property you are quite free to smoke outside.

We require a small deposit for the door key. Breakages most be declared so an assement of the cost can be agreed before departure..
