A TV with English free view channels is also provided.
Leading off from the living room up the stairs is the bedroom, with the kitchen, bathroom and dining area being accessed via three further steps. The compact but well equipped kitchen is perfect for cooking all those delicious ingredients bought at the local markets. The kitchen has fitted units, with a cooker, fridge/freezer and Microwave. |Further details outdoors|
For those long warm summer evenings there is a private patio area over looking the beautiful courtyard, which features an outside covered dining and BBQ area that lends itself perfectly to dining alfresco.
Set adjacent to the property is the enclosed solar heated pool. There are plenty of sun loungers making it the perfect place to top up that tan and, when you've had enough sun, there are plenty of good walks direct from the property.
Over-looking the very pretty courtyard, under the shade of the large lime tree, you will find the bar and games room - a perfect location to get to know the other guests and to quiz your hosts about what's on in the local area.
The bar area also has pool and football tables, and the owners hold movie nights for the older children. On rainy days Michelle often sets up the bar area as a playroom with colouring and games for the smaller children, a very thoughtful and popular service
The Poitou-Charentes region
This delightful gite cluster is a perfect setting for a “get away from it all” family holiday - ideal for those who want their own space but also like the idea of being around other families with children to play with.
The gites are surrounded by large, well maintained grounds that are ideal for outdoor play. The heated (saline) pool is a great hit with all the family and is safely enclosed. The onsite "bar" area and games room provides a perfect setting for grown-ups to mingle and for the kids to play. Your English hosts provide (optional) evening events during the week which give you the opportunity to savour the local produce or to have a night away from the kitchen with their delicious home cooked food. For those quieter moments there are lots of games to play, movies to watch, pictures to colour and toys to play with.
For those in need of a bit more action there is lots to do and see just within a short drive of the cluster. The beaches are less than 30 minutes away.
Set in the beautiful Charentaise countryside, surrounded by farm and woodland, there are plenty of lovely walks and cycle rides direct from the property.
Just ten minutes away is the delightful town of Pons which is dominated by its ‘donjon’, a 12th century keep which now houses the tourist office. The old town has tiny medieval streets (les ruelles) and imposing ramparts looking down onto the River Seugne 30 metres below, all of which can be explored on foot. The town is situated on the ancient route of the pilgrims and is also home to a museum of the pilgrims. Good bars and restaurants are available. Trips on the river are available (balades en barque), as is fishing. On the outskirts is a ‘base de loisirs’ with crazy golf and other entertainment for children.
Fifteen minutes away to the south is the slightly larger town of Jonzac which has a new Oasis style water park and lovely safe bathing at its man-made lake and separate boating lake. For those who are in search of some great French food, there are numerous restaurants in the area with the closest being only ten minutes away, and for those who want to cook their own masterpieces there are several markets on various days in the surrounding towns. Apart from the many caves offering tastings of the local Charentaise tipple Pineau, a trip to Cognac is also worth a visit, with its numerous world famous Cognac houses and a beautiful town to wander around.
A little further afield are the very child friendly beaches of the Gironde Estuary, with miles of safe sandy beaches and lovely little coastal villages and towns. Definitely not to be missed if sand is an important part of your holiday! Also worth a visit is La Palymre – it is the largest Zoo in France - with over 1600 animals to delight and entertain the whole family.

"Iydillic, relaxing, wonderful ........ as always."
We have stayed in several of the Gites many times over the last 8 years. We have stayed with our children, our parents and as a couple so have had differing holiday experiences on many occasions - all of which have been thoroughly enjoyed.
The Gite's are all decorated beautifully and extremely well kitted out. If you do need anything in addition to what is readily available Gill & Paul are absolutely wonderful hosts, nothing is too much trouble and they will be happy to help. If you are lucky you might get to sample Gill's culinary skills too!
The area is just beautiful, stunning, views of sunflowers, vineyards and church spires. There's nothing more relaxing than sitting on one of the terraces watching the sun set with a glass of pineau!
If you have little one's there is plenty to do round and about, with beaches around 30 minutes away and the historic town of Pons (gorgeous) 5 minutes away. Market towns, medieval towns, Lido's, not to mention a good choice of supermarkets within easy reach.
Chez Mesnard has it all, whatever you are looking for. Circumstances have meant we haven't visited this year but we have really missed it and will be sure to be back next year. Finally, don't miss Gill and Paul's Tartifalette Night.....superb!

"A fantastic gite holiday in France"
My husband and I booked Le petit dernier as a last minute holiday in September. The gite was well decorated, spacious, very peaceful, and all we had hoped for! The swimming pool and sun lounging area, was well positioned for all day sun, and a great place to enjoy a glass of wine in the evening whilst watching the sunset. We spent our time either lounging around the pool, or off on numerous day trips easily accessible from the gite. What really made this holiday special for us was the hospitality of Gill and Paul who went above and beyond to cater to our needs. We had such a brilliant time, and I even had tears in my eyes when we left. Gill and Paul grow a huge amount of veg on site, and we absolutely loved the homemade chilli jam (grown by Paul and made by Gill) which we had with our lunch most days! I can not rate this holiday destination more highly. Thank you for an amazing holiday!

"Fabulous Place to Stay"
My husband and I recently returned to these gites for a short break to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We have stayed in 3 different gites owned by Gill and Paul over the last 5 years sometimes with our teenage children and sometimes by ourselves. The gites are all beautifully appointed and equipped with everything you could possibly need.
The swimming pool and surrounding views are fantastic and the hospitality of the owners and their family is second to none. They like to ensure that you make the most of your stay with their local knowledge of where to visit, eat, etc.
I would definitely recommend these gites and look forward to returning again next year.

"A very relaxing holiday"
My wife and I spent 3 weeks at Gill and Paul's gite in July 2011. We had a very relaxing time despite having some bad weather. Gill and Paul were very friendly and Paul invited us to help ourselves to fruit and vegetables from his garden. We would have no hesitation in recommending the destination. The only disadvantage is that one has to drive to shops and restaurants as there are none in walking distance.

"A gem in the heart of the Cognac countryside"
Le Petit Dernier was such an ideal location for us. What more could you ask for; lovely swimming pool and garden, walks into the countryside on your doorstep, easy forays into quaint sleepy villages, excursions to the historic sites of Cognac or even La Rochelle and bucket and spade beach trips to the Gironde in half an hour. Needless to say we extended our stay!
Gill and Paul were outstanding hosts who made our stay effortless. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.
