The West Country region
The North Coast of Cornwall is an area of outstanding natural beauty with some of the most beautiful sandy beaches in England, perfect for all ages, be it a bucket and spade holiday or a surfing, sailing, windsurfing or kite surfing trip. Dramatic coastal walks, and the SW Peninsula Coastal Path are also on the doorstep. Ideal for walkers, while bird spotters will be delighted with the numerous sea birds, migrants and resident peregrine falcons. The area is also endowed with numerous quality golf courses, such as the championship St Enodoc links course.
It is a beautiful place to visit all year round, known for its sunshine and mild climate.
There are so many interesting towns and villages to visit such as the famous fishing village Port Issac (where the TV show Doc Martin was filmed), the amazing Eden Project, the beautiful Heligan Gardens, the National Maritime Museum at Falmouth, the Tate (and other) galleries at picturesque St Ives, and numerous historical sites such as King Arthur's Tintagel and the city of Truro.
Polzeath is an award-winning seaside village with shops, cafes and restaurants. It is known for its excellent surfing, with safety ensured by the lifeguard patrols on the beach. There is full equipment hire, as well as surf schools for beginners to advanced. For a quieter beach day, take the short walk to Daymer Bay (popular with families), and if you have spare energy, climb Brae Hill for breathtaking views. Then there is famous Rock with its sailing and water skiing on the Camel estuary. And let's not forget the quality local golf courses.
Padstow is also only a pleasant walk and ferry away, or a short drive. Why not go there for lunch and meander home along the beach - Rick Stein's eateries are all excellent, but also try Margots or Paul Ainsworth's No 6, not to mention the numerous hostelries where local brews such as St Austell's can be sampled. There are plenty of good village pubs to explore, together with other excellent restaurants in the area. Another great day can be spent cycling the Camel trail stopping off at cafes, pubs or even Camel Valley Vineyard along the way. Bikes for all ages can easily be hired from Wadebridge or Padstow. Why not try a tandem! And if you want to be pampered, try The Scarlet south of Padstow - you can combine it with a meal at Jamie Oliver's Fifteen at Watergate Bay.
