Enquire nowThe West Country / Cornwall region
The Cornish coast is famous for its outstanding beauty, rugged coastline, secluded coves and long sandy beaches. The famous Camel Trail from Wadebridge to Padstow is not far away giving just over 5 miles of scenic cycling along a disused railway line, with plenty of places to stop for good food and refreshments. There are lots of cycling centres offering bikes for hire and is ideal for any age as it is mainly traffic free and the terrain flat . There are also two golf courses at St Enedocs and The Point at Polzeath (Roserrow) both offering top-rated 18 hole courses and wonderful coastal views. After all your exertions why not take a relaxing drive along the pretty coast to Port Isaac where you might just be lucky to see the filming of Doc Martin or one of the many television adverts. This is a pretty working fishing village with a number of great places to eat. It is also home to many talented artists, potters and authors all of whom have their work on display in the village. Beautiful Daymer Bay is also close by with its gently sloping beach making it safe for swimming.
The Polzeath / Roserrow area
Polzeath is an ideal place for individuals, couples and families to take a holiday with Polzeath beach just a 15 minute walk along the valley or a short drive with parking on the beach. There are many shops providing everything required for the holidaymaker as well as a number of pubs and cafes. There are cliff top walks and a great sandy beach for children to build sandcastles and with plenty of waves for surfing (surf tuition, wetsuit and board hire are all on hand), so suitable for all ages. Only a few minutes walk from Idle Rock is The Point at Polzeath where for a small charge you can use their leisure facilities including swimming pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, gym and exercise classes. Play golf or just practice on the driving range. After all this relaxation or exhertion why not try the modern recently refurbished restaurant and bar with views overlooking the golf course, which serves breakfast, lunch, traditional Cornish cream teas and evening meals. All produce is sourced locally and children are given a very warm welcome. Rock is just 2 miles away and owing to its sheltered waters is a haven for windsurfing, wakeboarding, canoeing, rowing, sailing and fishing. You can also take the ferry from Rock to the lovely fishing harbour of Padstow which has a lively atmosphere and a fantastic array of shops, restaurants and pubs that serve full and light lunches, Cornish cream teas and evening meals. Rick Stein has a number of local shops here including the Patisserie, Gift Shop, Fish and Chip Take Away and the famous Seafood Restaurant and Cafe. Here you can also enjoy a thrilling speed boat ride taking in views of the camel estuary and the atlantic ocean or go reef fishing and water skiing. But why stop there, Bude, Bodmin, St Austell, Tintagel, Boscastle, Newquay are all in easy reach.

The lawn was freshly mowed, the key lock worked, the accommodation was beautifully clean with beds freshly made. Kitchen fully equipped with all you need. I had to defrost the freezer as i couldn't pull out the top tray-not a problem. Had trouble with mobile phone- neither of us could get connection and had to go to golf club. We're on O2. Apparantly Orange and T Mobile are OK, so i've been told. Laptops - You need to have signed up to BT FON before you arrive and we could get connected from upstairs. There is a good walk down to Polzeith through the golf course- well recommended. Its worth taking your golf shoes (plus a few balls) as hire of clubs is only £8, and 9 holes was £12. Again every one at the club was friendly and welcoming. So we booked in for the Thursday fish and chips evening- A good evening-nice beer. Beaches are great. Lots of windsurfers, big competition taking place. We cycled from Waybridge to Padstow on the Camel Trail. The cycle hire place on the left as you come away from town, has its own car park, where as if you cycle from Padstow you have to pay for car parking. We did the Eden Project which was a 50 minute drive. The longest Zip Wire ride in the UK straddles the whole of the park and is £5 if you paid to go into the Eden Park. We also went to St Austells Brewery, where some of the best beer in the UK is brewed. Two visits to Rock for a meal, where the veranda over looked the harbour and Padstow across the water. Lovely spot. make sure you pay for parking apparantly wardens are quite vigilant!!! Port Isaac was visted where they film Doc Martin- very nice. Boscastle was visited Beautiful harbour, A really great and relaxing week. Big recommendation. |

We stayed at the Idle Rock for a week in August 2011. The cottage is lovely and very comfortable with all that you would need from a holiday rental. Its a short walk to Polzeath Beach and is in a ideal location for exploring north corwall. |
