The West Country / Cornwall region
Climatically Cornwall is probably the sunniest region in the UK with on average 1500 hours of sunshine each year. Cornwall is known as the surfing centre of the UK and has a growing culinary attraction with both Jamie Oliver and Rick Stein having restaurants in the county.
The coastline of Polperro and surrounding area is part of the 80 mile South Cornwall Heritage Coast and as such offers excellent coastal walks to Talland, Looe & beyond to the east and to Lansallos & Polruan to the west. On this rocky, rugged coastline at Polperro you can find a natural pool which when the tide allows can be used for swimming.
Polperro area
One of the most popular places in Cornwall the village of Polperro is undoubtedly one of the prettiest and has long been a favourite for artists. Packed tightly in to a steep valley on either side of the river Pol, the quaint colour washed cottages offer suprises at every turn. When you are there you will realise exactly why Polperro was the centre of the 18th Century smuggling trade. There is a museum dedicated to the smuggling 'industry' in the village together with a model village. It is easy to lose yourself in the narrow lanes that make up Polperro.
Although the village is compact it offers all the amenities you need on your doorstep including : Post Office, Bakers, Convenience Store, Newsagents, Off Licence, Doctors, Cash Point Machines, Chemist, 6 Pubs and numerous Restaurants including Couch's Great House Restaurant.
The world acclaimed Eden Project is 35 minute drive away as is the City of Plymouth, home of Sir Francis Drake and the National Aquarium. Additionally there are several National Trust properties to visit including Lanhydrock, Cotehele & Antony House and a National Trust beach at Lantic Bay. For garden lovers the 'Lost Gardens of Heligon' are a short drive away.
How to get there
From Plymouth continue over the Tamar Bridge and keep on the A38 for 7 miles.
At the Trerulefoot roundabout turn left onto the A374 for 1.2 miles
Turn right onto the A387 signposted Looe
