The West Country region
This coastline of South East Cornwall is part of an 80 mile heritage coast and is a fantastic mix of quaint fishing villages, seaside towns, magnificent beaches and coves and wonderfully unspoilt countryside. A visit to this part of the South West of England is an absolute delight and has been a favoured destination of visitors over many, many years.
From Polperro there are wonderful walks along the headland extending to Talland Bay in the east and Lansallos in the west, both have great beaches and historic churches, the secluded coves along this coastline once provided ample opportunities for smuggling in centuries gone by and has prompted many literary figures to write exciting tales of adventures of the local colourful characters who once made their living not only from the ample fishing grounds off the coast but also from landing valuable contraband desired by the gentry from Lands End to London and beyond!
Today the beaches and coves around Polperro are a more relaxed haven for families enjoying themselves on holiday so come on down and join them soon!
Polperro is a delightful and enchanting jumble of traditional cottages, shops, characterful pubs and fantastic restaurants, each building encompassing the era and traditions of the Cornish fishing industry, and smuggling! Wandering through the traffic-free streets to the small harbour you can still imagine baskets of fish being carted from the boats to be bought by the local village people but under cover of night, brandy casks and tobacco bales were also being hidden behind every door. This peaceful fishing village is undoubtedly one of Cornwall's prettiest and a must to visit
