The West Country / Cornwall region
Cornwall is the most southern point of England and the location for many peoples' summer holidays, rural retreats, watersports and surfing.
The vibrant maritime city of Plymouth is 20 minutes east of the property and home to the National Marine Aquarium and the Theatre Royal.
Polperro is an ideal base for touring and exploring the rest of Cornwall and South Devon, there are the National Trust properties of Lanhydrock, Cotehele and Anbony Castle nearby, as well as the world famous Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project just 40 minutes away.
8 miles inland is the market town of Liskeard and Bodmin Moor, home of the Jamaica Inn, made famous by author Daphne du Maurier.
Polperro area
Polperro is a spectacular village in a wooded valley with a small stream running to the harbour. The harbour is reached by a short walk through the village following the stream as it winds its way among the narrow streets.
Polperro is one of the most popular villages in England attracting visitors and artists. There are plenty of shops to browse and the coast is a haven for birdwatching, beachcombing and sun bathing.
Talland Bay in between Polperro and Looe has a sand and shingle beach with plenty of rocky pools to explore. The delightful chirch of Talland is home to the slate headstone of smuggler Robert Mark, shot at sea in 1802. During the 18th-century, increased duty on goods during the war with France encouraged fishermen of Polperro to smuggle goods such as tea, gin and tobacco from the Channel Islands. The Museum of Smuggling illustrates the myths and legends associated with the smuggling history of Polperro.
Fishing trips and coastal cruises are readily available from the quayside so you can see a smugglers eye view of the spectacular coastline. Fishing has been the principle occupation of Polperro for centuries with pilchards caught in abundance.
The Polperro heritage Museum in The Warren houses artifacts and photographs charting the rich cultural history of the village.
