Villa | 4 bedrooms | sleeps 8
This is a lovely country villa built in traditional Mallorcan style, along the country road leading from the Old Town of Pollenca. Villa Mercarder is set back off the road down a pretty winding gated driveway and has large gardens with mountain views all around. There is another house Can Xanet De Baix (ID 347) which is on the opposite side of the lane making this an ideal stay for groups of up to sixteen.
Inside, the villa is an elegant combination of traditional and modern design with large and high-ceilinged rooms, with white walls and antique dark-wood furniture. On the ground floor there is a pretty country kitchen with marble surfaces, and appliances including a dishwasher and a microwave. Doors from the kitchen open out onto the covered terrace which overlooks the gardens and pool.
There's also a double-height dining room on the ground floor - with a wood-burning stove for cooler evenings in early or late season. French doors from this room lead out onto the vine-covered terrace at the side of the house. A staircase with stairgates (both top and bottom) leads up from here to the mezzanine lounge which has Satellite TV and a DVD player and a CD stereo.
There are also two twin bedrooms on the ground floor which share a bathroom with a bath and a shower. On the first floor there are two more bedrooms, a twin room and a double room, which share a second bathroom which also has a bath and a shower.
The gardens and outside space at Villa Mercarder are particularly well designed with lawns, olive trees, pomegranate and almond trees and lots of flowers and herbs in summer. There's a brick-built barbecue on the vine-covered terrace at the side of the house with a table-tennis table. The pool is a generous size and is very private here in the gardens at the back of the house.
Villa Mercarder is a lovely place to stay and because of its layout - with two bedrooms on each floor - it is especially well designed for two families sharing a holiday together.

The countryside around Pollenca Old Town and Puerto Pollensa is amongst the most stunning and picturesque in the Mediterranean. Lush green dramatic valleys, litterered with grazing mountain goats and sheep and beautiful rural famrland hillsides dotted aournd picturesque monasterys and farms are the typical view from your garden here. The great advantage here is that you are only within 5-10 minutes drive of supermarkets, restaurants and bars of the old Town and Puerto ollensa shoudl you wish to drag yourself away. Choose one of our private villas or farmhouses here to appreciate this stunning lcoation and be the envy of your friends.
Pollença Old Town is a peaceful and tranquil town that remains very typically Spanish. It is four miles from the coast, nestling between two hills at the eastern end of the Tramuntana mountains. Pollença itself is indisputably pretty. Historic buildings with ochre roofs, sun-baked walls and wooden shutters line the narrow and twisting medieval streets. There are pastel-painted houses in the centre and Moorish water mills on the outskirts. It's also a haven of sleepy Mallorcan traditions - café life and the siesta roll on here as they always have. The heart of the old town is the central square, Plaça Major, where there are many café-bars and fine restaurants. Pollença also has lots of galleries of Mallorcan art and design, and a town museum. The most famous walk in Pollença is up the 365 steps of the tree-lined 'Calvario' - the Calvari Hill. There is a tiny church at the top with amazing views over the town and across wooded valleys to the sea
Puerto Pollensa is host to long sandy beaches that curve around the bay and are divided by breakwaters and so are ideal for children. There are also a number of small, natural, sand and pebble beaches to explore. The atmosphere in Puerto Pollensa is relaxed with no loud discos or nightclubs, but a fine variety of open-air cafés, restaurants, boutiques and shops.
Taste: Pollença old town boasts some of the best restaurants on the island. From traditional Mallorcan to international cuisine, each has its own blend of atmosphere and tradition. 0
Weekly Market: It's especially lively in Pollença on market day, every Sunday morning, with stalls selling fruit, flowers, local crafts, clothes and household goods.
Discover: Pollença is nestled between two hills. One of these hills is Puig de Maria with an 18th-century monastery perched on the summit - a walk to the top is well worth the effort for spectacular views over Pollença and down to the sea.
Supermarkets: Large SYP/ Eroski Centre situated just off the main Pollença to Puerto Pollença, plus two in the town centre.
Villaparade first discovered the unspoilt Pollença region twenty years ago and fell in love with the wonderful countryside all around - from the dramatic mountains to the lush valleys. Since then we're very proud to have built up a collection of some of the finest holiday villas and apartments in and around the area. Our principle resorts are the historic medieval town of Pollença and the sheltered sandy bay of Puerto Pollença which are detailed on the following pages.Other areas of the Pollenca region in which our villas are located are:
Cala San Vicente, another of the best-kept secrets in the North of Mallorca. It's a quiet and relaxed resort surrounded by mountains with pine-covered slopes that run down to the sea. The sparkling blue waters and the three sandy coves are very child-friendly. The spectacular countryside here is also ideal walking country, popular with ramblers and painters.
Bonaire is an exclusive residential area on the peninsula around the bay of Pollença towards Alcudia with a pretty marina called Puerto Cocodrilo and a lovely sandy beach called Mal Pas. Son Serra de Marina with its appealing marina and sandy beach is 8km from the larger resort of Ca'n Picafort which shares the same sweeping bay as Alcudia. Ca'n Picafort's lively but friendly and relaxed atmosphere is ideal for families and couples.

"Lovely Villa, great garden and pool"
A lovely villa which I would recommend. It was very spacious and the outside space was great, very big, a nice pool and perfect for families with children. The sofa area is on a mezzanine upstairs which is ok and I guess in high summer you probably won't want to sit in door often (we went in May when it was still quite cold). The downstairs main room is huge. The 4 bedrooms are nice and the bathrooms in good condition. The kitchen is adequate but fairly basic. The toaster could do with being updated. Two bedrooms were on the ground floor and two were upstairs, each pair with a bathroom. The two areas were quite separate so would be good for two families sharing the villa.
Overall, this is a very good villa and the outside space is excellent. Location is ok too, about 5 mins drive to Pollenca and about 10 mins to the beach at Pollenca.

"Beautiful villa in my favourite place in the world"
I have just returned from an amazing holiday to villa Mercader with a large group of friends and young children. Pollenca is a lovely town and the perfect place for a holiday. The villa is a short drive away from the town which is full of cobbled streets and hidden restaurants and we love nothing more than an afternoon iced coffee near the Calvari steps.
The villa itself is a good size with room for a couple of families although noise can travel so be ready for early mornings. Our favourite part of the villa was the outside space and we had several bbq's during the holiday. The gardens are safe and very pretty with the trees offering shade when you need it. We had a slight issue with the pool at the start of the holiday but this was resolved within the day. The owner speaks little English but was very accommodating.
I would recommended this villa to anyone and I am already looking at booking for next year.
