About the home
Hort D'en Gelos, Campanet, Mallorca (Majorca)
In a lovely rural location amongst rolling wooded hillsides this hugely atmospheric old farmhouse, has a perfect mix of rustic charm and modern plumbing , with the entire first floor, in the eaves of the house, being restored from scratch, to accommodate four bedrooms, a smart shower room and two full bathrooms, plus a lovely spacious sitting room. All the villas rooms have attractive sloping beamed ceilings with windows peeping out just below the original tiled roof enjoying enchanting pastoral views.
This Villa In Mallorca is situated off a small country road, that meanders through gorgeous majorca scenery between Old Pollenca and the hill village of Campanet, which is just over 4km away and no more than a quick trip in the car should you want fresh bread for breakfast. Big wrought iron gates open into the villas parking area and from here steps lead down a pretty tree lined path to the villas rear terraces, where the attractive 9m x 4m swimming pool is situated. One of the old outbuildings to the side of the Villas In Mallorca has been converted into a covered barbecue area and beyond this is a delightful tree shaded patio that runs the length of the villa.
From the patio, the main entrance of this Villas In Mallorca door leads into a large hallway with antique furnishings and from here double doors lead through to a spacious and atmospheric farm house kitchen with beamed ceiling, colourful ceramics on the walls and a huge refectory table with bench seating. At the far end, a lovely old chimney breast runs the full width of the room and on its supporting beam are a huge collection of pots, pans and typically Spanish & Mallorcian terracotta cookware. Below the chimney breast is a long sweep of work surfaces plus a large fridge freezer and full cooker. Double doors from the kitchen lead out again to the villa's terrace.
Stairs from the entrance hallway of the villa lead to a generous first floor landing with doors off to two twin bedrooms and two bedrooms with double beds. Also off the landing is a lovely spacious living room with sofa, easy chairs and satellite TV, plus an upright piano. At this level there is one shower room and one full bathroom, with a further full bathroom, complete with washing machine, located downstairs off the entrance hallway.
If you're partial to fresh eggs for breakfast you may find a basketful awaiting your arrival as Hort D'en Gelos is next door to a smallholding belonging to the owners, with chickens and a few sheep.

The Mallorca/Majorca region
Away from the island's bustling capital Palma and the frenetic atmosphere of its nearby "high rise" resorts, a startling change of pace and scenery takes over. Fertile fields dotted with windmills turning lazily in the breeze, give way to rolling countryside covered in olive and almond groves punctuated by vineyards and small, sun-bleached villages. Medieval monasteries and castles perch quixotically atop pine clad mountains and look out over the azure sea that encircles the island's 400 km of beautiful coastline, most of which is surprisingly untouched by signs of mass tourism and remains virtually unknown to all but a few of Mallorca's many visitors.
With fabulous white sand beaches and historic towns of Pollenca, Campanet & Inca to name but a few, placed on the north west of the island of Mallorca sits below the inspiring Tramuntana mountains. Here the island of Mallorca retains a leisurely atmosphere reminiscent of bygone days with many small villages virtually untouched by tourism, where you can find a sunny Church square to join the locals in watching the world go by.
In the south of Mallorca, pretty harbour sides and sophisticated yachting resorts hide in sandy coves protected by pine clad headlands. Inland, below splendid monasteries perched on lofty mountain tops, life still beats to the rhythm of rural Mallorcan life.
With 6 Michelin starred restaurants, bodegas producing quality Mallorca wines, walking and cycle routes and world class golf courses, Mallorca is amongst the most sophisticated destinations of the Med.
On our Mallorca website you will find seaside apartments and a selection of individual Mallorca villas for rent ranging from centuries old farmhouse to neat little Villas near the beach
The Pollensa area
Vall de Pollenca, Mallorca
The old road, through the beautiful Vall de Pollenca winds some 6 miles between the Pollenca Hills and the towering Tramuntana Mountains, connecting Campanet to the picturesque Old Town of Pollenca. These days the road, now surpassed by the faster motorway, is used more by cyclist than vehicular traffic. Singled out for its beauty by the rich and famous the hillsides are discreetly scattered with rambling top notch villas, amongst which our Villas are tucked away enjoying this unsurpassed location from their more modest accommodation.
The village of Campanet, situated on the edge of the green and wooded foothills of the Tramuntana Mountains, one claim to fame is its amazing limestone caves, said to house the longest stalactite in the world! It also makes a good starting point for an exhilarating drive to the mountain top Monastery at Lluc via the picturesque village of Caimari. Amongst the village's narrow streets are no less than three bakeries, as well as a well-stocked supermarket and a delicatessen. The sunny church square has a number of simple bars and small shops and it's a pleasant spot to linger over a morning coffee and sugary ensaimada before heading off for the day. There are also two or three bars that serve authentic tapas or simple meals, but the village has surprisingly remained a peaceful backwater, virtually untouched by tourism.
At the other extreme of the valley, the picturesque old town of Pollenca has learned to accept and tastefully adapt to tourism so that at the vibrant Sunday morning market spilling out over the Placa Major, locals and tourists alike mingle between the wide varieties of stalls. Wandering through the narrow cobbled streets you will find many lovely old churches plus numerous small art galleries and handicraft shops. A pause for coffee and a pastry is recommended before climbing the tree lined Calvari steps - there are 365 of them, one for every day of the year - amply rewarded at the summit by panoramic views across to the northernmost tip of the island from the Calvari church! You will find a number of outstanding restaurants as well as small tapas bars tucked away behind the impressive central square.
For serious shoppers, the town of Inca, famous for its leather goods and with some excellent cellar restaurants, is a 20 minutes drive. For a hassle free visit to Palma you can catch a train from Sa Pobla, 10 mins drive away.
The nearest beaches at Puerto Pollenca or the Pollenca Bay side of the Alcanada peninsular are approx. 20 minutes drive.
The Pollenca Golf Course is less than a 15 min drive away.
