The Paphos region

Paphos is the main town of western Cyprus and Polis is located 40km north of Paphos in the beautiful Chrysochou Bay.
Polis is popular amongst Cypriots as still reflecting a more traditional way of life and is only a short drive from monasteries, wineries and hillside tavernas.
The climate is very benevolent with average temperature low of 12 deg.C in January rising to 20deg.C in May to 26 deg.C in August, falling slowly thereafter. Rainfall is limited mainly from December to March.
Polis is close to the Akamas Peninsula which is a national park and is very attractive for 3 season walking. Akamas is the home of the famous Baths of Aphrodite
The Polis area
Polis, the main town of the area, has old-fashioned streets and a central square in which a range of excellent restaurants can be found, all of which are no more than 15 minutes walking distance from your apartment.
The harbour at Latchi is 5 minutes by car from Polis and has some of the finest seafood restaurants in Cyprus. All are found on the harbour front where the visitor can enjoy a freshly cooked seafood meze while watching the harbour traffic come and go.
The Akamas is a National Park and provides excellent walking and cycling in the cooler months from October to April. Exploration and discovery is the name of the game during your stay, whether it’s a drive up into the mountains, a sea trip up the Akamas coast, or dining in the mountain top taverns of Neo Chioro, Lysos or Steni.
It is all here for you, enjoy it at your own pace and you will remember it for ever.

This is a short review of the penthouse apartment at Polis Gardens, in Polis, which is part of the Western Cyprus county of Paphos, and about 35 km from the busy and touritsty, though still very pleasant, Paphos town). In summary, this holiday accommodation is excellent. We just enjoyed our second fortnight's stay at this excellent holiday apartment, on the top floor of a recently built block, with a lovely large clean shared pool (plus two other smaller ones within 1/2 min walk). Built by Pafilia, a big developer in Cyprus. Property is 3 bedrooms, 2 bathroom with excellent entertaining space including large terrace outside overlooking the mountains to one side and the (distant) sea to the other. We think (from the outside) it is the best apartment in the block, its terrace is the last to stay sunny at sunset. The apartment is modern and has plenty of good facilities. Showers work great, as do the aircon units (though living room is huge and the regular size aircon struggles - solution is to forget aircon and open the patio doors, as the living space has lovely double aspect). Underground parking in dedicated space. The terrace is a sun trap and you can sunbathe there in private. You can eat al fresco there too, with the manually operated awning providing some shade respite during the day. Not the cheapest holiday rental for Polis (some places advertising for 200 a week) but that's more an indication of the glut of rental properties and most are far inferior 2 bedder houses and who knows about the facilities and quality of the overall package as a holiday let. Frankly at 500 a week for a clean, modern, large apartment with great facilities and views, we think it's fantastic value for money. We also like Polis and its surrounding area of Cyprus which is a world away from the touristy Paphos (though it's nice to know that it's only 45mins drive along one of two main roads of approx 35km). If you want nightclubs etc, Polis is not for you. You can survive without a car but really, we think it's essential. Two large supermarkets nearby on the main road into Polis town centre, though in the heat you'd be glad you have a hired car to lug all your provisions back to the apartment. There are numerous restaurants for eating out every night (our typical bill for two was Eur40-50 a night for a blow-out fresh fish dinner including some beer and wine). In summary then, very highly recommended and we will be returning again. |

The penthouse is situated approx 10 mins walk from the centre of Polis. It's elevated position gives it a wonderful 270 degrees panorama including a sea view. The modern spacious apartment is very comfortable and well equipped, however, the balcony is the crowning glory with sun loungers and dining area. The balcony overlooks a large shared pool. We were there at Easter and there were never more than half a dozen people using the pool area and always lots of sun loungers available. polis is a charming friendly place with plenty of choice of places to eat, good supermarkets and the usual selection of clothes, gift shops etc. We would recommend hiring a car since there are many gorgeous places to visit. We definitely intend to go again. |

We had a superb holiday in this wondeful apartment and complex. Communication with the owners was clear and efficient and we found the apartment was exactly as advertised. The swimming pool is excellent (only used the main pool) and the complex was always clean. Refreshing not to have to fight for sun beds even in August! Spent lots of time eating and drinking in Polis (15 minute gentle stroll) and Latchi (10 mins by car or 8 Euros taxi each way). We particularly enjoyed a drink or two at the numerous bars near the beach and in the Marina in Latchi. The two highlights were renting a speed boat and touring the beautiful coastline (around £120 for 5 hours and £30 fuel) and swimming in the freezing cold Adonis Spring (don't be put off by the off road conditions, you will get there!). We thought the cost of food and drinks (£2.75 pint) was very reasonable and the local supermarket has everything you will need. In summary and excellent holiday and we intend to visit again soon. |
Guestbook for Polis Penthouse - Akamas View
"Great base for walking in the Akamas. The apartment was beautifully furnished and we could walk to a different taverna every night. We had a very untouristy holiday and felt like independent travellers!"

"We spent a wonderful week in April exploring Polis, taking in the delights of the Akamas Peninsula, with all the many amazing sights, sports and wonderful restaurants dotted throughout the area. The apartment was 5 star, extremely spacious and well equipped with everything you could possibly want. It has great sea and mountain views from large balconies where leisurely meals were enjoyed. It is in a superb location, close to all amenities, with 3 beautiful swimming pools, a sauna and hot tub which we used daily. With so much to see and do in this area we will certainly return. "

“My first visit to Cyprus was a most memorable and enjoyable experience. Do you know they drive on the left? Transit from the airport to our beautiful apt. was so easy despite the lateness of our arrival. The apartment was very comfortable and well equipped a real home from home. The beautifully aspected balcony was so pleasant that we lunched there most days as the mountain views were so spectacular. Exploring the many lovely little villages around Polis and walking in the Akamas mountains were high points—literally!”
