The Paphos District
Cyprus is a beautiful island situated in the eastern Mediterranean sea. Warm and welcoming people, one of the best climates in the world, fresh local food and outstanding natural beauty, Cyprus has it all.
Paphos is located in the south western part of the island. The town sits beside a pretty fishing harbour with a excellent selection of fish tavernas and restaurants serving anything from pie and mash to the exquisite local Cypriot cuisine. The harbour overlooks a medieval castle and is a great place for people to relax and enjoy the views. Away from the harbour, Paphos is a bustling town with an interesting covered market and a wide array of shops and bars hosting some excellent night life.
Paphos is loaded with history. Visit the 3rd century BC Tombs of the Kings and the House of Dionysus with its perfectly preserved mosaics.
Polis / Argaka area
ARGAKA
Argaka is one of the largest villages in the Polis area. The village is mainly agricultural and all sorts of fruit and vegetables are grown here. The backdrop to this village are the superb mountains full of pine trees, which is Paphos Forest.
Argaka has miles of beach and has the most stunning sunsets in the world.. There are a smattering of kiosks, supermarkets, and some traditional tavernas all within the village. On the beach front is an Irish bar which shows all the sports channels, has quiz nights, karaoke, live bands and has a good selection of English beers.
The drive to Polis is only 4mins away.
POLIS
Polis, which in Greek means town, is on the wide Chrysochous Bay that runs along the north west sweep of Cyprus from the tip of the Akamas Peninsula to Pomos Point, at the start of Cyprus' Tylliria wilderness.
Polis offers the ideal holiday for those who appreciate authenticity and seek rest and tranquility in a pleasant and friendly environment, which blends mountains and plain with a wonderful healthy climate, particularly warm clear seas and secluded beaches.
It's a laid-back sort of place with lots of old-fashioned nooks and crannies, in addition to a picturesque central pedestrian area mostly given over to tavernas, restaurants (with some of the best and most affordable dining to be had in the whole of Cyprus) and shops. The leisurely pace of life here is a welcome sign of just how different things are in this part of Cyprus.
Nonetheless, Polis is considered to be an excellent location for those who enjoy active holidays, whether on land or sea. There are plenty of opportunities for hiking, cycling, water-skiing, wind-surfing, scuba diving, horse riding and golf - to name but a few! (Tsada golf course is just 25 minutes away from Polis).
LATCHI AND AKAMAS
The Akamas nature reserve and Baths of Aphrodite are a short distance from the villa and for the more adventurous, a trip to the long sandy and predominantly deserted Lara beach, with its crystal clear waters is a must.
The beach is protected during the late summer months when turtles arrive to lay thier eggs. The Akamas is popular with hikers, cyclists and nature lovers alike as it offers stunning views. The fishing village of Latchi is reputed for its harbour side fish restaurants, which many believe to be amongst the best in Cyprus. In Latchi there is a water sports centre, where you can arrange boat trips, hire jet-skis, learn to dive and much more ( discounts available ). Bicycle hire and safari trips can also be booked in Latchi. There are two Golf courses within an hours drive. A local bus service runs from Polis to Paphos daily.
