The Paphos District

Paphos

This south-west corner of Cyprus has an ambience all of its own: soft breezes, old stone, elusive enchantment and an air of antiquity. This is the kingdom of Aphrodite, the goddess of love, and her presence seems to linger. Paphos itself is really two towns, each with its own character; Ktima on the cliff and Kato Paphos by the sea, two kilometres down the road. The one is unchanged over centuries and thoroughly Cypriot while the other has expanded over the last decade from a sleepy fishing village and harbour into a bustling, busy, sprawling cosmopolitan resort which is still growing.

Roman Paphos was the island's capital, and the 3rd century mosaics here are the finest in the Mediterranean. The atmosphere is funloving and friendly, with plenty of bars, pubs, discos, a few nightclubs and innumerable eating places providing anything from choice Italian cuisine to sizzling souvlaki off the spit.

Swimming in the bay's deep, clear waters is good. The coastline to the north is peppered with small sandy coves but the area's best beach is a 15 minute drive away at Coral Bay. Paphos is an ideal centre from which to explore this region of wild coastline, unspoilt hillside villages and natural beauty; yet it takes less than an hour by car to reach Limassol.

Paphos combines both culture and entertainment in a conveniently sized package. In Paphos you will find some of Cyprus' most stunning archaealogical gems such as its Roman mosaics and Tomb of the Kings situated amongst beach-front resort hotels and golden beaches. Cultivated bananas grow in profusion along the south-western litoral, yet the Akamas Peninsula is one of the island's last unspoilt wildernesses and is home to flora and fauna species found only on Cyprus.

Small beach resorts that have not yet succumbed entirely to commercialisation await discerning travellers and there are abundant land and sea based activities to suit every taste. While Limassol is brash and Larnaka is demure, Paphos is quite friendly and is one of Cyprus' most desirable cities. Kato Paphos (Lower Paphos) is the port annex of Pano Paphos (Upper Paphos) and is home to the greatest number of archaeological sites in the area. It provides a lively and friendly ambience in it's renovated port area where visitors, unlike elsewhere in Cyprus' ports, can actually swim.

With its palm tree lined boulevards, tasteful public and private buildings, Paphos is a pleasant place to spend a holiday. There are ample restaurants and watering holes and if you tire of the beach annex you can always retire to Pano Paphos for an afternoon's stroll or evening meal.

Polis / Peristerona area

Peristerona is a beautifully peaceful inland village surrounded by rolling countryside and citrus orchards. The small traditional village has a small grocery store, taverna, coffee shop and a Church with Byzantine museum of Arsinoe which can be reached within just a 4 minute drive.

The town of Polis, huddled around a pedestrianised square with a wide selection of restaurants, tavernas and cafes, is within a 10-15 minute drive of the villa with the fishing resort of Latchi and the unspoilt Akamas Penninsular beyond. The harbour and town of Paphos is approximately 45 minutes drive from the villa.

Guestbook

Metcalf - 30/10/2007 - Our one week holiday at Villa Heaven was perfect. The house has everything we needed, spacious and nice. The welcome package was very much appreciated, good to have some fruits and drinks when you arrive late. The views were just amazing, the gardens and the swimming pool were used a lot. We also enjoyed to go to the beach (15 minutes by car). The friendly service and warm hospitality of Olympios was much more than we expected. We hope to be soon back again.

Kumar - 3/10/2007 - I am not one to bother with reviews, but I felt this property really deserved my time. It’s surely one of the best on this website, if not in the entire area – and we have stayed at a few! The property itself exceeded our expectations with absolutely everything you could possibly need! Gardens, great swimming pool and facilities an added bonus. A car is a “must” as the nearby facilities aren't in walking distance. We for one just wanted a lazy relaxing holiday and Villa Heaven offered us just what we needed. Highly recommended.

Hall - 19/09/2007 - We had an excellent vacation. The villa did exceed our expectation. It is well maintained. This is the first time I rented a villa, however, this time we planned a family gathering and decided to stay all together and it was a big success. It gives you a feeling of being home away from home. We all had a great time especially the kids had a blast, however, the kids were so entertained that they hardly had the time to watch TV. We would definitely return back to this villa and would also highly recommend it to all my friends. To the owner Olympios, who was very attentive, Thank you very much to rent us your beautiful villa.
Bayliss - 05/09/2007 - This is our second time in this villa and defiantly will not be the last. The Villa had everything you could ask for and more, maybe too nice for renting out. The views are just amazing and we enjoyed all of the outside areas, particularly the pool. A car is useful to get the the supermarket and visit the surrounding villages and beaches which are about 15 minutes away. We mainly relaxed at the villa and enjoyed the sun! Thank you for everything.

Maund - 27/08/2007 - The views from villa heaven were spectacular you should show this on the website. The location is just amazing, thanks again.
