The Paphos District
Cyprus is an island of beauty and a country of contrasts. Cool, pine-clad mountains are a complete scene-change after golden sun-kissed beaches. From skiing in the Troodos Mountains in the winter, cruises to Egypt and the Holy Land, a wide range of water sports, golfing days in the beautiful sunshine, Cyprus appeals to all generations. The summers are long and hot, fruit trees buckle under the weight of their bounty as do the vines, the grapes of which go into producing some fine local wines. A holiday here is idyllic, there is lots to see and plenty to do, the welcome is warm and the weather likewise.
Cyprus benefits from a much longer season than many holiday locations, making it an ideal choice in winter and summer. Summer stretches from mid-May until mid-October with high temperatures, blue skies and cooling breezes from the sea. December and January are the winter months, but still with an average of six hours of bright sunshine.
Polis / Argaka area
Argaka with it's views, Latchi with it's fish taverns, the Mediterranean with plenty of watersports and pristine mountains for mountain biking and hiking; what more can a person wish for?
Cypriots as well as visitors agree that Argaka and the Polis area belong to the most beautiful parts of the Cyprus Republic. Even in July and August when the rest of Cyprus turns into a desert, the area remains relatively green. Agriculture and fishery still are important which adds to the authentic atmosphere of this place.
Polis is considered to be the best location for nature lovers and those keen on active holidays, such as water sports, diving, hiking, cycling, horse riding and golf. The marina at Latchi is a focal point and is shared by traditional fishing boats as well as larger yachts, and the quayside boasts a wide collection of fish restaurants where you must try the fish that has been caught that day and brought into the harbour. If you are feeling energetic try some of the water sports or take a trip on one of the glass bottom boats out along the Akamas Peninsula and see nature at its best. Take your swimming costume though as the boat moors in a wonderful cove to allow you to swim or snorkel and take refreshments, which are normally provided. Alternatively just sit and relax on the wide uncrowded beaches which spread out along the coastline.
The Baths of Aphrodite are among many famous tourist attractions in the area . This natural pool, where legend has it that the Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite, used to take her baths. The serene pool, shaded by a fig tree and surrounded by beautiful examples of maindenhair fern, can be reached by nature trails from Akamas. It is about 3km from Latchi and 9km from Polis, and from there start the Akamas National Park towards the cape.
A drive to the Troodos Mountains also provides a beautiful and fascinating spectacle of Cyprus. A visit to the Kykkos monastery in the mountains, an area of natural beauty is an unforgettable experience. Visit the many traditional inland villages and enjoy a meal at a local taverna – you’ll be sure of a warm welcome!

Thank you so much for a lovely holiday. Your home was ideal for a young family – quite spacious and with all the amenities we needed. Thanks again. Tanya & Dorran Wajsman - London.
Expectations can be very high when you have never been somewhere before and often are a let down. Not So in this case! We loved staying here not only for the fabulous décor, but also all the equipment etc. We have been coming annually to Cyprus since 1989 and have been so pleased with our stay. Can’t wait to get home and book for next year!! Thank you. Michelle and Steve Kershaw - Lancs.
We both loved staying at Akamas Heights, thank you very much for sharing your home with us. The house itself was beautiful, just as wonderful as it appeared on the internet and the location excellent. The most striking aspect of the accommodation is the high quality of the furnishings, quite a pleasant change from the usual tourist accommodation. The personal touches were appreciated too. You have succeeded in creating an environment perfectly suited to complete relaxation, thank you! We really enjoyed exploring this area, particularly the walking trails in the Akamas and the Akamas villages, particularly Pano Arodes and Kato Arodes. Thank you Amanda Fraser & John Simpson Dec 2007
We had a lovely holiday in Cyprus, and your home was the icing on the cake! Regards Carole & John, Wakefield, June 2008
