The Paphos region
Polis is within the Paphos District, one of the six Cyprus districts and it is situated in the western part of Cyprus. Its main town and capital is Paphos. There are four municipalities in Paphos District: Paphos, Yeroskipou, Peyia, and Polis Chrysochous.
Its coastal area is characterised by gulfs and coves, capes and points, beaches and tiny isles. North-west of the District is the Akamas peninsula which contains a national park where the reproduction of the green sea turtle is a protected activity.
Polis is a traditional Cypriot town, with many restaurants and bars with a town square in the centre, where there are numerous coffee shops. It is a friendly, no hassle environment, with good traditional values and a warm welcome.
A short drive along the coast is Laatchi and the beginning of the Akamas peninsula, a famous nature reserve. At Laatchi boats can be hired and there is a long sandy beach with several restaurants nearby. Laatchi is loved by the Cypriots for its seafood restaurants. If you drive further down the coast, you will see the signs for the Baths of Aphrodite, where the views over the bay are wonderful from the restaurant there.
